It was important to me that the bump stops be black and of high quality. In my lift, the Jeep JKU 3 sat on a block. If you are replacing suspension components, you must install 5" of drywall. The barn was AWFULly cold, so I boiled a pot of water, carried it out to the barn, and poured it over them. As soon as I got everything ready, they were so pliable that they could be popped Lubricate the plugs and the sockets with a small amount of lube. It is important to clean the sockets on your Jeep if it is rusty. Anyone from the north knows how rusty their Jeep is. Using a wire wheel on my drill motor, I got good results. I was able to get them cleaned, primed and painted. As I discovered, the factory bump stops had so deteriorated, that they were packed into the teeth connecting them to the engine. I removed them by tapping a flat blade screwdriver into them from the back. The roadwork is going well despite a lot of potholes and about 1800 miles. Thanks a lot.
Those old rotting factory bump stops were my issue. I finally fixed it. We definitely needed these before our trip and were able to use them well since our Jeep was loaded with 4 people, a roof rack, gear, and a roof rack. The trip was much more pleasant because of the coffee. This is a temporary bump stop before installing a lift kit, which will require longer bump stops on the bottom and extensions on the top.
Replaces the original front suspension bump stops with new ones that perform much better. An installer must possess a certain level of skill. If using a wooden piece of 4x4. A floor jack and a wooden piece of 4x4 are used to put pressure up, the bump stops are pushed into the cavity of the support base. Some grease will be necessary on the bump stops.
This is a very expensive item. Getting it installed is tough. For the old mounts, I had to rig up some thread, nuts, washers, and assembly grease in order to install these very expensive pieces of very easily and cheaply made urethane. There may be a tool for this that I am unaware of. However, for that price i would have thought that it would also.
I used these to replace the rotten and broken stock foam bump stops. The only reason I gave four stars was because even after greased them very well, it was still a bit difficult to install, so I used a 2 by 4 next to the wheel bearing as leverage.
Foam stops from the past are now I like how tight and comfortable these are. I think they should stay, though it is difficult to get in.
The old stock ones can be replayed with a little work, but are a good back up for new ones.
