The other pea is substantially more expensive, so why would you do that? I had 35K miles on this GM part when it failed in my Silverado. Although it looks almost identical to the original GM part, I have read that the metal sensor tabs and the contact board (which fails) appear to be of higher quality than the factory part. I have read that many people have replaced this part 2- this is a fairly straightforward procedure. Vehicles produced by GM are reconditioned 3 times at the end of their life cycle. As of now, the part from Dorman is working as it should and for half the price of the part from AC Delco, which is probably the same part GM just packaged differently. The following information is noted In order to remove the compression ring that holds the fuel sending unit in the tank, you will need to purchase a special tool. A hand tool will not be able to remove it!.

The first time I hooked it up, it went to 1/2

I hooked it up at 1/2 when I first hooked it up because this is what the fuel level should have been. When the gauge stayed still after several days of driving, it was a mystery. In spite of filling the tank up it registered 1/2 full for a few days before pegging out at the full mark where it remains all this time. It was the fuel level sender unit that was defective, and the dealer had to look at the gauge sweep test to make sure the stepper motors were operating normally.

The deal is good

Once the sender is removed from the tank, it is easy to install. A replacement that is exactly the same. This price is much lower than what dealers charge.
