I'm not sure about the c220, but on a 2005 SLK55, I only used the female half of this part. The original OEM sensor was a perfect fit for the part and performed flawlessly.
I left the battery connected. In my case, the sensor's connector with wiring was damaged and needed to be replaced. I just took out the old sensor. The wiring was plugged into the existing harness. After that, I reinstalled the sensor, which worked flawlessly once the car was started.
It will work as long as the part number is 65816905133.
It was ordered for a 1998 BMW 528i, so I'm not sure.

Why, BMW gods, are you doing this to me? Why did you put the AAT sensor where every parking lot loves to kiss the E46? Why are you so obsessed with the BMW AAT sensor in parking lots? The answers to these questions, on the other hand, may never be known. br>One thing we know is that this is the replacement part. br>After replacing the AAtSensor twice, we've learned to relocate the Ambient Air Temperature sensor. br>This item comes with nice long leads for relocating this AAT Sensor to a safer resting place, which should eliminate the need for future AAT Sensor replacements. Zipties were used to secure the lower front radiator area. Mine is now in the engine compartment, and although it is warm, it is safe. Again, this sensor only measures outside air temperature and has no bearing on performance; if the engine relied on this sensor for adjustment, we would not have moved it to the engine bay.
Your air conditioner will not work if the temperature sensor is not working. Either one will give you a temperature reading. It's either 40 degrees or 122 degrees. It is possible to replace it yourself at home. This sensor reads the same temperature as the factory part and includes the socket and some wire, which can be extremely useful if your original sensor is completely missing or has the wires cut with only half an inch remaining. (This is common if you drive past a parking spot and then reverse - The wires can be caught and broken by the lower molding. ) There are two leads from the vehicle to the temperature sensor - The blue/red lead is connected to the replacement's red lead.
Sensor systems with a 0L ambient temperature sensor and a 5volt sending voltage. I worked on my Volvo 960 3, which was built in 1997. The OEM sends a 5 volt signal to the 0L ambient temp sensor, and this one does as well. Wells A12529 Ambient Air Temperature Sensor is a third of the price of the OEM Volvo part Wells A12529 Ambient Air Temperature Sensor, which is $60. 00br>When it fails, I'll post an update. Assume that everything is fine until then. If yours is expensive, it's worth a shot. br>br>How I got it to fit my car wiring: br> Make sure the positive sending side of the car wiring is tested; it should send 5. When the car is running, the voltage is volts. A pos sign will appear in the display if you use a multimeter. With the car running, ground the black lead on your multimeter and connect the red positive lead to the wires on your car's wires. A pos 5V will be visible on one of the two connector wires. Then, on the new sensor, connect the red wire to the car wire that shows a positive 5V sign. Use a hair dryer and a glass of ice water to conduct the experiment. br>For me, it works perfectly, displaying the temperature once more and making the computer happy.
On a model from the United States, it has been installed. It works, but it's three degrees warmer than it should be. Since I ripped out my splash guard where it originally mounts, it's probably because I mounted it just behind the bumper.
My only issue is that it does not work because it arrived dead. One pin was too short when it arrived (as shown in the photo). Because there is no electrical connection, the ambient temperature is read as 122 degrees Fahrenheit. br>I'll come back for a replacement, but the wait is excruciating.
Installing it was a breeze. Show temperature in a good way. 2 wire, no sensor: br>br> show - 40Cbr>Connect the wires to the sensor: 80C should be displayed.
For my BMW E39, it worked perfectly. The red wire is connected to the factory's blue and red wire, while the blue wire is connected to the factory's blue and brown wire. It's always 40 degrees.
Can't beat it for the price at all for the price at all at all at all at all at%.
