The primary function of the accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor is to track the position of the throttle pedal and send an electronic signal to open the throttle body when you depress the gas pedal. As you press down on the gas pedal, the APP sensor basically tells your engine how fast or slow to go. When you depress or release the throttle, an electrical signal is sent to the vehicle's ECU, also known as the ECM, which then transmits the signal to the fuel system.
