What is the purpose of this for the rear lift gate?

The actuator on the liftgate needs to be installed, but how?

On each end of the actuator, there is a small ball with a hole on one side, and a clip on the other side that extends from the hole to the ball. Retainer clips are clips that are used to hold things in place. It's time to remove the old actuator, but first, we have to remove the two lines that are attached. To get a hydraulic pump, go to a hardware store. Near the trunk storage area, to the left is where the pump is located. There is a possibility that the aluminum strip around the trunk enclosure will need to be removed.

After getting the hoses detached, counter-push and pull the cord to unhook them Turn counter-clockwise, then pull apart. Place back together the other way around. If the trunk is open during this process, then a broomstick or a board is often required to keep it open.

This is a Polish-made Hoerbiger part listed as ACDelco 23429744 GM Original Equipment Liftgate Actuator. I have not yet installed it, but I will tomorrow. It has some shop wear, but I have an appointment to do so.
