The direction set by driving around the neighborhood was enough to set the compass after I set its region to the correct one.
After researching this information for about 15 minutes, I was ready to share it. I'm not a Tundra owner, and this part was specifically chosen to replace the compass in a Tacoma. With a little bit of reading, however, I discovered there's a possibility that the Tundra TRD Off Road from that year did come with a compass and a temperature gauge. Ideally, I would start by calling Toyota and asking them to provide you with the part # of your Compass. Then I would search for the part number that this product replaces to see if that is the one that matches. As best I can, I can only say that.
Apparently, the brightness is about the same as it was when the computer was first purchased. Initially the light was dim, but it became brighter after the original part failed. For those selling the surface mount resistors, ignore the fix and concentrate on the rest.
Don't be shy about removing the metal clips by pulling down on the windshield side of the plastic. It would be a good idea to stop by your local Toyota dealer (maybe call first) and purchase two new clips since they can fall off occasionally. To pull down the unit, I would also suggest using two hands Both sides of the front face this way. Plastic is less likely to be damaged this way. It is also important not to let the whole unit dangle from the wires, as one of the 2 connectors is a bit more delicate than the other, considering the small gauge of the wire. In the Toyota technical bulletin, it states that the compass needs to be calibrated. You should have an owner's manual that describes how to do this. The task is a piece of cake, and best of luck with it. Take your time and you shouldn't need to spend more than 10 minutes doing it (unless you lose a clip and don't have a replacement).
Suitable for the job. A sensor module for the outside ambient environment had to be purchased as well. There is nothing good about the stock temperature and compass gauges in a 2006 Tacoma. The faulty PC board had to be soldered over and over again, eventually resulting in a failure. As a replacement, an exact OEM one was supplied, and it provided the same type of diaper as well. It was found online as an "updated" OEM part. I gave it 4 stars only because the temperature display is slightly smaller than it needs to be. I simply compensated for the fact that the temperature at this business was 3 degrees higher than every business that displays a temperature sign outside. There were no directions about how to adjust the temperature reading outside. Normally, OEM parts are extremely expensive and difficult to find. I would give this part a try over the exact OEM part.

Having a problem with my 2006 Tacoma display My past work has involved soldering & mounting I sent the unit in to be repaired with upgraded diodes after it worked perfectly for a while. Amazon delivered my unit in just a few minutes, and I was able to install it on my own I work. Unlike the original factory unit that had an MPG display, the replacement unit does not have one. I hate it! Up here in the mountains, at least I can tell what the outside temperature is. While the display is readable, it is not bright enough to be seen during the day. It works great. My 2006 Toyota Tacoma sport 4x4 has worked perfectly with this device so far. This new module has been improved with a circuit board that will not flare up in my driveway under the Arizona sun. My original module kept heating up in the sun and causing a solder to soften on one of the resistors on the factory board. I've kept it in AZ sun for the last two months, and so far it's been holding up.
Unlike the original, this one isn't as good as it was. There seems to be no problem with functionality, but the display is not While it's barely readable under daylight conditions and is completely invisible with sunglasses, the display is completely hidden. Using my newly acquired knowledge, I should have had my old unit repaired (for about half the price of this replacement unit). There are a variety of places that will repair a damaged speaker for 50 cents or less when it is caused by two tiny resistors coming loose.
I just decided it would be faster and easier to buy a new one and have it fixed in one go. There was a mistake on my part. I shouldn't have rushed to repair my old computer when I should have just waited a week.
