I purchased a handlebar mount.
I don't have a versys, but I do have an 08 vulcan 900, which works just fine for me. They appear to be universal in that they connect to your bike's data link.
It wasn't necessary for mine, so I just plugged it in.

It's a bright day! It's simple to put together once you realize you're not connecting it up front as the instructions suggest. I had to run this all the way to the plug under the seat behind the battery on my 2015 Versys 650. It's only held in place by two sided sticky foam that came with the package, but it hasn't moved and costs a fraction of what the official Kawasaki one does. It's simple: simply route it all the way back, unplug the dummy plug, and reconnect the connection. I docked one star because the cheap metallic bezel is nothing more than a sticker that I nearly tore off. br>br>Note that there is sometimes a slight lag; I will shift and it will take a fraction of a second for the shift to be registered. Also, when I come to a stoplight, it sometimes thinks I'm in second gear when I'm actually in. According to what I understand, the gears are calculated using the speed or RPM. In any case, I'm satisfied because it was inexpensive and did what it claimed to do.
It was ready to use right away. It does exactly what it says it will: it calculates the gear you're in based on your engine RPM and driving speed. If you don't fully release the clutch, the gear change may not be registered. When you come to a complete stop at a light or a stop sign and downshift all the way to 1st while holding the clutch in, you'll notice this the most. The last gear you had the clutch fully engaged in will still be displayed on the gear indicator. The indicator will be reset if you shift into neutral and let out the clutch. Rather than "N," it says "0. " It's simple to read, but the LCD lights are a little more difficult to see when the sun shines on it at an odd angle, but not impossible. It wasn't easy to put together, but that's Kawasaki's fault, not the seller's. Parts of the front fairing were difficult to disassemble because I didn't understand how they were put together (yet). Installation was simple after you finished that part. There is also a wiring diagram. The view is from the connector's back side, the end where the wires are pushed in. I hope this has been of assistance.
There are two similar plugs, one under the windshield and the other under the seat. This is stated in the instructions. Everything works fine after I wired it according to the instructions.
It's very simple to set up. It provides accurate gear position, which is what it's all about, right? I now know whether I am in third, fourth, or fifth grade. br>Thank you for creating such a fantastic product.
It's simple to set up and use.
