The cap is a replacement and is not a part of the engine. Featured with a locking system.
My 2000 Jeep TJ Wrangler is equipped with a 4WD system. Neither my taillight nor the wrangler's taillight had to be removed. The T J series was made from 1997 to 2006, and it's the same on all of them.
There is a possibility if the original screws holding the gas cap cover are on the body of the JL. There may be a connection, as the fuel door covers on newer Jeeps resemble the ones on older Jeeps.

I only had to spend about 15 minutes installing it. Also, I like how it makes the piece look more finished. There are only a few things I'd change, like making it a little thicker. My overall impression is that my purchase was a good one.
