Questions & Answers

Is this a low-pressure service port that will work?

I'm not sure what vehicle you're looking to use this on, but it only fits the high pressure side on a GM, and I used it on a 99 Tahoe with a significant leak. So far, it's served its purpose. It beats having to open the system, vacuum, and refill with freon to replace the port.

Is it 1/8, 3/16, or 1/4 inch in size?

This is an 11mm hex, which is just under 7/16 inch in diameter. The thread size is 5/16-inch

What is the method for sealing it? Is there an o-ring that I can use instead of teflon/ptfe tape? ring?

Teflon tape should never be used in an air conditioning system. Use a thread locker to keep your threads from getting tangled up.

Insurance is a term that is used to describe the This is fantastic! This is something I strongly advise anyone who owns a GM vehicle with an R-series engine to do
5/5

The 134a system is a type of refrigeration system. You can screw this into either the high or low side (or both) with a little Nylog Blue on the threads. It performs admirably in terms of creating a tight seal and preventing Freon from escaping through your service port valves. Instead of the leak-proof valve, I had the high-side port replaced with a Schrader valve. This cap is my insurance against the GM's prone rubber ball. It was also installed on my other vehicles.

Dorman, thank you very much
5/5

I only wish I had known about this item sooner because it would have saved me the money I would have spent on a schrader valve extraction tool. GM did not use a schrader valve on the high side service port on my 2003 GMC Sierra, so the schrader valve extraction tool failed anyway. The small brass plug did an excellent job of sealing the leak in the high-side service port. If you have a small leak at the high side service port and the port does not have a schrader valve, add some R134A Freon to charge the unit up and then put in this plug. br>br>If you have a small leak at the high side service port and the port does not have a schrader valve, add some R134A Freon to charge the unit and then put in this plug. You're not going to be let down.

This is an excellent $5 Dorman fix for a GM design flaw
5/5

This is an excellent $5 Dorman fix for a GM design flaw. The seal for the AC high side service port was redesigned by GM at some point, but the stupid thing is that the service port rubber seal fails before any other part of the system. Because of a refrigerant leak in the system, our Tahoe's air conditioning failed to cool properly. The failure was due to the failure of the service port seal. It was the first time it had ever been used. There had never been any AC work done, and no hoses/gauges had ever been connected, nor had they ever needed to be. It's as if a tool breaks before you use it when a service port fails. br>br>Before I figured this out, I had to add a can of R134 to the low pressure service port a couple of times a season. br>br>Place a small neck balloon over the port and inflate it; if it inflates, refrigerant is leaking. This Dorman brass plug replaces the plastic cap on the aluminum service port and seals it tightly. I did use a small amount of silicon grease to aid in the seating of the plug, but that was just me. br>br>With the plug in place, the baloon test revealed no leakage. The plug can also be removed if the system needs to be serviced.

It Works
5/5

If your car's AC system's Schrader valves are leaking and aren't serviceable, like the ones on my 2004 Chevy, remove the plastic caps and screw in this brace plug! It's a cinch to use. It has no negative impact on the ports.

Keeps the high-pressure valve from leaking refrigerant! The air conditioning in my old GMC pickup has failed
5/5

I drained and recharged the system only to discover that the dreadful high-pressure valve (the one with the little black plastic ball in the bottom) was hissing. This is normal, according to GM, and the cap serves as the primary seal on these valves. Mine was dripping all over the place. I was going to replace the valve but couldn't get the old one out, so I came across this instead. It's as simple as screwing it in and tightening it. Voila! There will be no leaks anymore!.

This will save you both time and money
5/5

We've had AC problems with our 2012 Traverse since it was two years old, thanks to Dorman. After being serviced under warranty a few times, it would run out of freon. Because the warranty period had come to an end, I decided to give it a shot. I informed service about the leak dye that had appeared around the high side port. They were charging the system while leaving the valve open and sealing it with a plastic cap. I calculated the cost of replacing the high side line (which is both costly and time-consuming). Dorman had made a plug for this GM problem, so I installed it and the system's air conditioning started working.

I wish I had bought it two years ago to keep the high side from leaking.
