I found the bends on the mandrels to be very clean and perfect. I couldn't find any creases like the ones With my Honda Turbo Prelude downpipe and intercooler piping, the combination of a 45 bend and a U bend was perfect. For the cost factor and strength factor, I chose mild steel over aluminum. My mandrel bent tubing hasn't rusted too badly either, I applied a light coat of oil to the inside and outside to prevent oxidation. So far, there are just a few minor patches of surface rust. I should also point out that the walls are quite thick. The process of bending exhuast tubing or downpipe tubing with a smooth mandrel bend makes this tool very popular.
