LIM on a Pontiac Grand-Am 3 from the year 2000 was replaced. The engine is a GM 3400 V6 with a displacement of 7 liters. br>br>I started leaking coolant after letting the car sit for a while, first on the belt side of the engine, then on the air intake / drivers side of the engine. Checking the oil, it appeared to be newer oil when it should have looked much darker like oil at 3000 miles. br>br>I almost went with the more expensive Fel Pro, but this one appears to be made in the same way (METAL with Rubber GASKETS), plus I needed new bolts for the LIM, and this kit includes them, whereas Fel Pro wanted $20 more for the bolts alone. My EGR was compatible with one of the gaskets included in this kit. My replacement job did not require the use of two gaskets and one O ring. br>br>The valve cover gaskets were a perfect fit for my covers. br>br>Other items you'll need to purchase. Get a new gasket if the throttle body was removed from the upper intake. br>Assemble a sufficient supply of O- Fuel injector rings (6 for me), usually sold in packs of four. br>br>The gaskets for my Lower Intake fit perfectly. The uppers have positioning knubs, which didn't quite fit perfectly but came dangerously close to laying flat on both ends. The LIM gaskets don't have a name on them. They had to be Dorman, I'm guessing. br>br>Instead of the Fel-X, save some money and get these. Pro's. br>br>Despite the fact that it is only DAY 2, there have been no leaks.
These will do the job and then some for you if you can follow directions. Regarding the dreaded GM 3, I conducted extensive research. 1/3. Every forum, video, and blog I visited mentioned the 4L LIM gasket issue, and two brands came up. By far the most popular option was Felpro. Many people recommended skipping Dorman and instead opting for the more expensive competitor. However, as a hapless retail slacker in my mid-twenties, Felpro's asking price was a little too high for me. Especially when you consider the cost of the intake manifold bolts (Felpro sells them separately, adding $20 to their already higher price), as well as all of the extra gaskets Dorman includes in their kit. In the end, it's either $40 for everything and then some from Dorman in one box, or $80 for two separate packages from Felpro, with some secondary gaskets not included in the package. br>br>With that said, I just completed a 1,100-mile lower intake manifold gasket replacement. While I can't speak to Dorman's gaskets' long-term durability, I have no complaints at this time. I double-checked my work a few times to make sure, but it appears that Dorman's less expensive gaskets, combined with a liberal application of RTV on every seam, are a surefire way to solve your LIM gasket problems while saving a few bucks. It's also nice to have new EGR gaskets, throttle body gaskets, and O rings for several coolant lines (as well as new LIM bolts). I'll buy this package again if I ever have another leaky gasket situation. At 120,000 miles, I honestly don't see the point in paying twice as much for a car that will only be used for a few years before I upgrade.
This kit has helped me replace three head gaskets and intakes. The best bang for your buck and fantastic quality. They include new intake bolts and coolant tube orings, which I really like.
FEDX will issue a refund as soon as the return label is printed by them.
Also, the set pins on the upper gaskets were not in the right place, so I had to remove them and use some gasket sealer to keep them in place. Overall, you get what you pay for, and I'd rather have a metal gasket than any of the plastic gaskets that are still available for some reason.
Excellent value for money.
We can now keep the car for a little longer because of the low price and the fact that everything fits.
This is an excellent product that comes with everything you'll need to complete the task correctly. With Prime, I was able to get these in under 24 hours.
