Connecting it to the tank's bottom would be the best option. In the process of expansion, the radiator coolant is designed to fill the reservoir and then return liquid to the radiator as it cools down. An overflow can occur if too much coolant enters the container through the opening at the top.
My understanding is that radiator fluid is hotter than power steering fluid, so yes, I'd say
A universal tank is what we are discussing here. This is what the specs look like. The dimensions of this piece are 7"high by 6"wide by 4"deep

In the past, I bought a similar version of this at a parts store, but this one is much better made. There is significantly greater thickness in the tank and the wire on the basket is easily twice the size of the wire on the tank. As well as the transfer tube, it is of higher The fact that the box stated the product was made in the USA was a nice bonus. As a matter of fact, I am extremely impressed with the quality.
It is a quality product that works well. Using my bracket, I bent it to fit under the hood where I wanted it to be. The hardware is excellent it allowed me to set up my stove with no need to go looking for washers and fixtures. It was an easy 10 minute job, where 9 minutes were spent looking for a suitable location for the coolant container.
Although I would like a larger one for my 1992 Pace Arrow, this one seems to work well.
It should be noted that while the capacity was estimated to be 18 ounces, no cold level of coolant appears to be present. My home is in Texas, so the temperatures can vary greatly, and I lost quite a bit of coolant in the summer heat. Hopefully, now that problem is resolved.
Overall, I was very satisfied with this tank, except for the tubing which is too short. On my car, I also needed to mount it at the opposite end from the pressure relief valve. I ended up having to purchase extra tubing from the local home store due to the tubing not being long enough to reach the tank. There should be a foot or two more of tubing, and I would have given it five stars.
The overflow tank on my motorhome was exactly the same as this. I already owned the bracket that came with the unit so installation was quick and easy. By lifting out the old one and inserting the new one, I simply had to remove the old one. I would recommend this kit for anyone needing some kind of overflow tank on a motorhome. The pipes were the perfect length and the hardware worked perfectly.
This is what I bought to convert my 89 Jeep Comanche from a closed cooling system to a system that operates openly. The new pressure bottle fits perfectly into the space once the old pressure bottle and its mounting bracket are removed. There is sufficient slack in the wire harness to allow it to move, so you will have to massage it out of the way. mount the new container on an aluminum bracket bolted to a pinch weld at 90 degrees to the pinch weld.
This is a sturdy bottle I added to my 69 Firebird after some painful modifications (the car, not the Keeping the overflow off the ground ensures safety for the critters. The radiator is refilled with fluid when the car is Although the tubing is soft when hot, it is robust when cold.
