I'm sure some people swear by it, but I'm not one of them. I purchased the variable tube because of claims that it performed significantly better at idle in extremely hot areas. Because I live in the desert, I thought it would be beneficial to have triple digit temperatures for long periods of time during the summer. It fits fine, and the car is in good working order, but holy cow, that's where the fun ended. My brand new system was installed perfectly, with a new compressor, accumulator, hoses, and condenser. I vacuumed the system down, connected the gauges, and serviced everything. There are no leaks, no clutch squealing, and the air is nice and cold. I used to think that life was wonderful. The howling began at that point. It sounded like a malfunctioning blower motor at first. Then, after turning off the car, it continued to make this godawful noise from beneath the hood. Finally, I was able to narrow down the culprit to the new tube. It was removed, the system was recharged, and everything is now quiet. There are no ghosts moaning and drawing attention to themselves at stop lights, or driving me insane inside the car. Who knows, maybe the proximity to the compressor, condenser, or long hose lengths cause some strange harmonics; I'm not sure, but it drove me and some ac tech friends insane for a while. Maybe it works for others, but if ghosts appear after installation, it's not worth it.
