Only one side is to be used. The round bar or square bar is available for use, with two sets of tabs that must be weld onto the roll cage.

What are the possibilities of shortening this spring bar?

This cannot be shortened due to a technical limitation.

I believe that these items are as good as they appear on the website. Considering that they require a good bit of clearance all the way around, they're not the best for mounting window nets, but they make AWESOME camera mounts (the supplied bolt-in one fits most camera mounts) or harness stops.
