On a 1998 K1500 extended cab, push the white clip in to change the gears from Park to First
5/5

There's a black throw-in for those who couldn't get into first gear. The white tab at the transmission fitting has a throwaway piece on it. Remove the black tab but do not yet insert the white clip. br>br>While both the transmission ball and the transmission shifter ball are in park, connect the cable to them. When looking at it from the driver's side, the transmission actuator is in park when fully rotated clockwise. br>br>Push the white clip in and slide the black sleeve over it once both ends are connected and in park. The range should then be extended from Park to 1st.

Cable is fantastic
5/5

Why was it so important to us? This worked on my LS-equipped Chevy Tahoe from 1998. Our truck (which is old) would not shift from Park, R,N,D,1,2,3 or Back after a 4th of July trip that took us through some deep woods, back roads, and deep water/mud pits. Fortunately for us, some young children came along and showed my husband how to manually shift it into drive, and we were able to drive the beast home right away. I hope that information is useful to you as you try to figure out if you're replacing the right part. After hours of research, we determined that the problem was the Transmission Switch Cable, and as my husband removed the old one, it was torn in the middle where the weather could reach it the most (Ugh, Michigan Snow), and replaced it with this old. Oh, how I adore the convenience of conducting online research and purchasing auto parts from Amazon. We ended up saving $300 because of this. Since my husband did the work himself, I spent 00 in labor. A word of advice: shop for auto parts on Amazon; we saved $22. This truck is lovely, and I drive her every day, which means we have to replace parts from time to time. br>br>Shop Quote- This truck is lovely, and I drive her every day, which means we have to replace parts from time to time. br>br>Amazon did not pay me to share this with you; I am just super excited not to dish out money on a car part. br>Part- $77br>7/10/17br> 00br>Employment - $225. 00br>br>Do it Yourself with no transmission experience/just youtube videos/research (4/6 hours work) You will also need to remove the drivers seat and carpeting. It's critical to apply it correctly
5/5

Okay, folks, the shifter bracket on the transmission should have a nipple for the shifter cable to point at the transmission; otherwise, the shifter will not function properly, and the cable will lay flat on the floor. In addition, the bracket that holds the cable at the transmission can be adjusted to some extent. So don't be afraid to bend it a little and loosen the two screws to adjust the angle; it should move freely. Before you start bending things, make sure the neutral switch pointer is in the neutral position. It'll work out fine.

This product would be suitable for the vast majority of those who require it
4/5

This product would be suitable for the vast majority of those who require it. It's possible that it won't be the case in my case. In the last two years, I've had two on my truck. Last year's model began to prevent the truck from entering low gear. I couldn't get the truck into park if I turned it around the other way. The cable housing, I assume, stretches or wears where it bends. Most people who use this product will never have this problem, but I'm using it on a snowplow truck, and with the constant shifting from low one to reverse, I've probably used this cable more in a year than most people will in ten. I suppose I should have thought about this before buying this product. I shouldn't have been so cheap, but at half the cost of OEM, I figured it was worth a shot. My second one is working fine so far; perhaps it's only good for plowing snow and my experience was a fluke, but it's a pain to set up. The seat, the carpeting on the driver's side, and the section of the dashboard beneath the steering wheel must all be removed. You're unlikely to want to do it again in a year if you've already done it. br>br>The bottom line is that this product is probably fine for most people, but if you have a snowplow truck, you should probably go with OEM to be safe.

Original Equipment Manufacturer quality
5/5

I went to my local auto parts store to get a cable, but when I took it out of the box, it turned out to be an off brand, and I was disappointed with the quality (and the higher price, around $96). Because I didn't need it right away, I returned it to the other major name parts store in town and ordered this OEM cable for a much lower price, which arrived two days later and was identical to the original. It's been installed and it's working perfectly. The vehicle had 237,000 miles on it at the time of the accident.

Great price, great product, and it worked perfectly
5/5

It was less expensive than going to the dealer for the same part. I only gave it one star because these fail on older Chevy trucks. To route cable, the cill plate, carpet, and drivers seat must be removed. This is not a product problem. There is an issue with the truck. Bolts and screws that have rusted through the years. Excellent product.

It works
5/5

For a 1998 C1500, this is a good fit. It's not easy to replace the floor covering because it necessitates removing the seat belts and seat. However, the situation shifts once more.

There's nothing else to say about it because it's a factory part
5/5

This, like all factory parts, went together smoothly. Slow down, be methodical, and get rid of a bunch of things you don't really need to get rid of. Thank you for using the factory service manual. In any case, it's well-made and it solves the problem. My truck now shifts more smoothly than it did when it was first purchased.
