Five years and two broken shift tubes later, I had no trouble replacing it and my car feels brand new again. Putting it off kept me from doing it since I thought it was much more involved. There is still nothing you can do to design it to fail further. Not only is this part made of very brittle plastic, but the design isn't even more durable. There is no way to avoid them breaking. It's impossible for me to identify a single 99-percent Owner of a 2004 Ford truck (or maybe even longer) who has never experienced this part snapping off under normal conditions. My truck went into reverse when I stepped out of it at a gas station, bending the hinges, crunching the quarter panel, and peeling back the metal skin on the front section of the door as a result. In this case, Ford should be liable, but they simply won't acknowledge it, as they do with a multitude of ridiculous Ford-specific matters.
To replace the original that broke, this one is good. In case it ever breaks again, or if I need it for a different vehicle, I'm glad that it came with a spare.
My shift lever indicator was fixed with this kit, it was easy to install and shipped fast, I highly recommend it.
My truck was not listed as fit, but it worked perfectly. I am very pleased with the product and I am happy I did not have to replace all my switching indicators as auto zone said I should.
Ford's 99 F250 Super duty was equipped with this sensor.
