But the lever pops off easily and it doesn't fit well

All is fine until you try to set the choke. The lever pulls out of the chinky It doesn't seem to work no matter how loose I make it.

The Trail Boss 250 was manufactured in 1999

Fits like a glove. We removed the original choke cable (made in Mexico) after it had broken off the lever and replaced it with this new one The service manual was followed when making the adjustment. I love how it works.
