It determines the amount of moisture in brake fluid; most cars and trucks use DOT 3 or 4; consult your owner's manual for more information. Other than a Toyota brand fluid that meets DOT 3 specifications, I don't believe your Toyota has any special brake fluid. It's a good idea to flush brake fluid every few years; if it's black, it's likely that it needs to be flushed; consult your owner's manual for more information.
I'm using it for DOT 3 and it appears to be working fine.
I should have mentioned that DOT 5 is in effect. 1 is still a glycol-based fluid that can be mixed with the DOT 3 and 4 fluids. It has a higher boiling point, which is its main feature. So. Yes, this tester should be DOT 5 compatible. 1 fluid. Please accept my apologies for any misunderstanding.

Three different Toyota/Lexus vehicles were tested for brake fluid. Since purchase, none of the brake fluid has been replaced or even topped up. A 2005 Lexus RX 20330 was tested with just one amber light on (1%), a 2009 Camry was tested with all lights on (4%), and a 2012 Highlander was tested with two amber lights% A newly opened bottle of name brand brake fluid performed just as well as well as well as well as well as well as well as well as well I changed the fluid in the 2009 Camry with a fresh bottle of fluid, pumping the majority of the 32 oz through the calipers and master cylinder to refresh the entire system. Oops, it still reads 4% a day later. I can't understand why the oldest vehicle has the best reading, the new bottle has a marginal reading, and the Camry's full refresh has a completely negative reading. Although the unit appears to be well-made, the results are inconsistent and unreliable - It's useless, so I'm returning it!.
The lights are very hard to see. It is not permitted to be used outside; it must be used in the garage with the lights turned off. It also doesn't give the same readings because you have to choose the type and brand of brake fluid you have. Inconsistent and inaccurate information. It's not something I believe in.
It worked flawlessly and made checking fluid a breeze. This way you know 100% whether it is time to flush your fluid or not it is time to flush your fluid or not it is time to flush your fluid It's a good buy for the money, and knowing whether or not to flush the fluid gives you peace of mind.
There isn't enough time on the light for this device to run into a dark area and turn on its lights. We assumed the battery that came with it was defective, but after replacing it with a new one, it was still defective. You can't see the lights that tell you how much water is in the brake fluid when you're checking it out in the light.
After a complete brake job, the brake fluid had to be changed twice due to moisture in the fluid, so I purchased this tester. This gauge was purchased by me. the precise gauge that the mechanic employed I tested the fluid two days ago, and it came back as "critical. " When I contacted the mechanic, he informed me that these gauges had been discarded due to their inaccurate readings. With the test strip, he checked my brake fluid, which was fine.
The most difficult part was prying open the battery compartment. It was simple to use, and I definitely needed to flush my brake fluid.
It will assist you in determining when and whether you should. This is an excellent tool. Determines when and if you need to change your brake fluid - It has been used on a number of vehicles and always appears to provide accurate results. One of the vehicles I knew needed its fluid changed (friends), and it threw the meter off. It's no surprise that his pedal was squishy. br>br>It's a useful tool for both DIYers and mechanics.
Although the tool is simple to use and performs well, I have given it a lower rating for two reasons: br>1) the instructions on the package are vague; br>2) more importantly, the battery compartment lid is poorly designed. You'll have to pry it open to get the battery in, and you'll almost certainly scratch it and possibly break it.
