Selected User Reviews For Brake Fluid Tester Pen, Hydraulic Fluid/Liquid/Oil Moisture Analyzer with 5 LED Indicators, Auto Brake Diagnostic Testing Tool for DOT3 DOT4 Brake Fluid (Black (Pack of 2))
I decided to do a fairly meticulous calibration check on both of the two units I received after reading a few negative reviews. To serve as a reference, I purchased a bottle of DOT3 brake fluid. After diligently cleaning and drying a number of vials, which have necks wide enough to aid the brake fluid testers, I prepared a number of tests vials of about 20 ml volume. In order to measure the moisture content of the brake fluid, I put 20 ml into a vial and measured it with the moisture tester There is no difference in how they read. In that case, I tested the sample 1% of water in the vial, flushed the probes with water, blotted them, then repeated the measurements There is no difference in how they read. My latest measurements were taken after flushing the tester probes with water and drying them, then adding 2% more water and repeating all In one case, it was 2%, in the other, it was My latest measurements were taken after flushing the tester probes with water and drying them, then adding 2% more water and repeating all 0 and 1 both display the highest possible value, respectively As a result of these tests, the following conclusions can be drawn Those little fountain pen testers are pretty good at detecting water in brake fluid, and the results of their tests are quite good In my case, at least I have two of them Usually, this will allow you to determine whether the brake fluid level is low enough not to worry or whether it is high enough that it is likely to need replacing soon. In fact, they do not appear to be precision instruments at all In light of the device's $7 price - which is to be expected I think I can decide whether or not to replace my brake fluid based on this information if I want. However, there is one caveat regarding this measuring the conductivity of brake fluid is not the gold standard, which is directly measuring the boiling point of the fluid (by heating). I will follow the following path from my perspective (2) I like to examine the fluid every year or so with one of my testers and replace it if it shows more than 3% degradation Otherwise, replace the fluid according to the service intervals specified in The above is not what I guarantee is necessary or sufficient for anyone else to use as criteria for fluid replacement - I do not represent it as definitive. This is only an opinion of mine. Although, I do think the little testers are a reasonable tool to use now and then to alert me to changes in my braking system that I may not have noticed.
The price can't be beat and the product works perfectly. After using the probe, it is extremely important to wash it carefully. The brake fluid in many cars is extremely corrosive to plastics. If the instructions were not read, I'm pretty sure the broken ones couldn't read it either.
There are no other methods I can use to test the moisture in my car's brake fluid so I cannot attest to its accuracy. My first test of vehicle #1 showed 0% but my second test showed 100%. I tested the brake fluid and hydraulic clutch fluid of vehicle #2, and found no contamination, but it showed 2% contamination. In any case, even though the fluid was acceptable at 2%, I decided to flush the brake system. I would recommend purchasing this tool for around $10 as it is amazing to have. You should do your own repairs to your vehicles, especially if you do your own welding.
In my 1969 Chevy Nova, I purchased this brake fluid moisture tester after I flushed or changed the DOT 3 brake fluid. A fluid I had used for several years had been stored in a sealed container and I was concerned that moisture might have adversely affected it. Tests were conducted on multiple samples quickly and showed the fluid to be in good condition. It was a good purchase for me.
We tested a few cars and found one that just had the brake fluid changed displays a green light, but one that is one year old displays a yellow light. As I see it, it serves the purpose it was intended for. Due to its flimsy battery cover, it was docked one star.
The tool I used to check the brake fluid in my vehicles was pretty simple to use. I found it easy to place batteries into the device, and using it is as simple as clicking a button and inserting the probes. I found the readings to be pretty instant and easy to understand with the lights showing.
I bought two so I could share them with my.
The two pack was purchased so I could give one to a friend who works on cars as well. The vehicles I own have all been tested and have been found to be It works well for me and I will use it as a tool in my tool box. I can't determine if it's accurate but it has worked well for me.
Cheap and it is important to know the moisture level of the brake fluid in order to be able to replace it before permanent damage is done to the brake.
