Good fit. br>Wasn't as difficult as I had anticipated. br>I left the hub and bearing assembly in place. Instead, I cut out the center, which is where the caliper opening is, and it fit. Because of the rust, I expected the retaining bolts to be the most difficult to remove, but they were actually quite simple. br>The old one had completely rusted/rotted away, and I had assumed I needed it to pass state inspection. I was told I didn't need it by a guy I was talking to at the auto parts store. It appears that keeping crud off your brake and caliper assembly is critical.
Yes, using a hacksaw, I had to remove the caliper area. My 5 inch locking pliers (vice grips) from Harborfreight [Bremem] were the key to removing the three bolts that held the old brake dust shield in place. You'll need a very tight solid bite on the bolt's head for it to come free with a healthy amount of force. To use the 5 inch locking pliers (vice grips), I had to first remove as much of the rusted and crumbling brake dust shield as possible.
If you don't want to remove and replace bearings on the wheel hub, keep in mind that the area with the least amount of material will have to be removed to get these in place. They can't be installed without removing the hubs, and there's no other way to get them. They appear to be well-coated and should not rust any time soon.
These are the perfect fit. We had to cut the section near the caliper off to allow the shield to slip on and bolt up because the axle bearing was still in place. This modification has no effect on the overall shield because it is held in place by all three bolts.
Instead of pulling the hubs, I cut off the narrow section to make the shields look more like a 'C' and slipped them on instead. Be aware that there are three small bolts holding these in place that may be rusted.
high-quality.
Note that you will need to remove your axle shaft to replace these because they are a complete circle with a diameter smaller than the wheel flange. I cut it into a "C" shape with a hacksaw and slipped it through the flange. I wish Dorman, a well-known manufacturer of replacement parts, would recognize this flaw and develop a replacement part that is better designed.
I couldn't find shields for my Vibe anywhere until one of the Vibe forums suggested these. With only a few tweaks, these were ready to use!.
