With this seal, you will find the u-shaped end very pliable This groove serves as the channel mounting surface. In my application, I have a mounting rim that is somewhat variable like yours, but it is closer to 1/8 inch thick. Those dimensions are accommodated very well by it. states that the channel fits thicknesses up to 1/16, I assume it will also fit that thickness, though the channel may need to be squeezed a bit to ensure it fits snugly. Having worked with a seal for over two years, this is my opinion.

In my truck, I will be replacing a clutch fan with an electric one. Adapting a fan from another vehicle was necessary in order to do so. To ensure the fan pulls all the air through the radiator, it is important to seal the shroud so all air passes through. Normally I use larger top bulb weatherstrips for this purpose, so I tried the smaller 3/8" size. I also found the 1/16 U-shaped weatherstrips to be beneficial for this purpose. I found the channel to be a good fit for the plastic sides of the shroud in general. When you cut it with tin snips, you can easily pull it out with pliers once the deformed piece is removed. It doesn't seem to affect its strength.
