Overall, I'm pleased with the product; the door handles look great and work smoothly after a little trimming of the plastic cover. The pull straps are much nicer than the OEM ones. The handle is extremely durable, with excellent machining. They are unbeatable in terms of price. br>br>When trimming the plastic cover, refer to my photos for guidance. Take note that I had to remove about 1/8" from the top of the slot where the original pull strap came through to slightly enlarge the rectangular opening.
There are no instructions, as stated in previous reviews. Nonetheless, it's an excellent change. Other than Dave's comments and directions, here are some additional notes: br>Remove the trim and set it aside. br>Use a 1/4-inch bit to drill out the useless red strap. Remove the rivet with a drill and a bit. br>Drill a hole in the bottom of the sleeve to fit it. The bottom hole on the front bracket is drilled out with a 5/16" drill. The sleeve then actually fits and stays in place. br>Place the long spacer piece that connects the lever to the door opener in place. Make sure the long spacer piece is positioned behind the drill out section, and secure it with a screw. br>Remove the screw from the metal frame and place the lever in its place. br>Using the photos from Dave's review, use a dremel tool to trim the plastic piece. He does a fantastic job of demonstrating this. br>Assemble the unit, finally connecting the two with the lower screw on the lever. br>br>On the bottom nut of the handle, Locktite is required. It will not function properly if you tighten it. Locktite should be used to turn it back about 1/8 turn to keep it in place. br>br>That strap is so much better!.
You'll need to cut out the top section with the handle, but not the bottom section with the rod. Excellent quality and a great addition to the x3!.
I bought these because most people trying to get into a CanAm struggle to open the door, so it's much better than trying to find the pull cord. They have a habit of pulling the handle out rather than back, which these handles correct. If you're handy, you'll only need to make a few minor changes to the plastics. I removed the plastic with tin snips. br>br>Handles are sturdy and firm. They have a fantastic vibe to them. The spring is nice and tight, with no wiggle or jiggle. Great product. br>br>I used to have door bags with knee pads in that area. You'll have to give up the knee pad, but it'll be well worth it. If you want a door bag, look for some that don't have knee pads.
The handles themselves are solid, but the hardware that connects them isn't quite up to the task. The handle will not move properly if the screws are too tight. The screws vibrate out if they're loosed up enough for the rje handle to move freely. On our first trip out with them, we lost one screw. br>The handles also exert a significant amount of torque on the plastic tab inside the door with which they must connect. br>Some re-engineering of the product might be beneficial. imagining.
There are no instructions or even a picture indicating which way the bar should be mounted. br>The first was a case of trial and error. I did make a modification to the arm to allow it to pivot freely on the handle by including a bushing. I suppose just tightening the screw and making sure it was snug on the handle would have sufficed. However, I reasoned that it would run more smoothly and be less prone to loosening due to handle movement. These are excellent value for money, and I strongly advise you to purchase them. They perform admirably and are far more convenient than the stock red strap.
The system appeared to be fairly simple to put together, but I made the mistake of placing the bar on the outside of the mechanism rather than the inside, making reattaching the cover impossible. They should be provided with some basic instructions as well as a stencil for cutting the cover. br>br>In addition, the photo shows a spring that is not included in the kit. This would make operating the heavier lever assembly a lot easier. Add some threadlocker as well, as I see the screws backing out after a few rough rides in the future. br>br>Apart from that, this system was reasonably priced for its purpose.
These are far superior to the factory-installed pull straps. I replaced the included hardware (screws) with high-quality stainless steel hardware because I found the included hardware to be lacking in confidence. I also used a dremel cutoff wheel to reduce the size of the bushings and replaced them with flanged bushings to eliminate play and maintain a smooth, non-slip surface. motion of tying up These are a must-have for any X3 owner!.
