The hose is black, as is the braiding.
Obviously, the temperature would play a role in this. I've used this in other applications where there's only a tin heat shield and 3 inches between it and the exhaust manifold and it works fine.

After cutting the return lines to length with a sharp blade, I installed them. The installation is simple, but three of the connections leaked right away, indicating that the hose was a little too large. There's a small leak, but there shouldn't be any at all. Although the hose appeared to be new and in good condition, it did not fit properly. I've decided to switch to a different brand.
On the drivers side, a 2L diesel return line was a perfect fit for my 1983 GM Detroit Diesel 6. In my Chevrolet Suburban, I have a 2L diesel return line. br>Exact inner diameter of hose, pushed on perfectly. My fuel leak was fixed in about 5 minutes after I cut it to length (roughly 10"). I'd suggest it. Fuel lines for the 300SD were replaced. Fit is simple and secure.

The outer woven layer appears to be of good quality, and the inner rubber appears to be of good quality. Because I ordered the wrong size, I was unable to conduct a diesel longevity test.
For a 1999 e300td, there is insufficient length. Jose, on the other hand, is excellent. To ensure that you have enough length, order two.
This isn't something you'll find in any parts store. So get a lot of it.
