Can I use this for the entire fuel line in my 1973 VW Bug?

If the inside diameter is the same as the original, this should work fine. You don't want to downsize a fuel line because starving it of fuel can cause the engine to run lean and cause damage. I used this for a diesel tractor's fuel return line, which was the same size. This fuel line hose is also not intended for high-pressure fuel injection lines.

How big is the hose on the outside?

It has a 7/16" outside diameter.

It's what I'm using to connect my 1/5 scale rail cars' vacuum brakes. What else can I say? It's tough and adaptable. I'm content with myself.
