After making some research on solutions to fix/replace the Intermediate Shaft bearing on Porsche M96 engines, I concluded that there are a number of possible options. In the event of failure of this bearing, your engine will not be repairable. The cost of replacing an engine may exceed $10K, so it is important to consult a mechanic no matter how successful your engine may be. In the end, I chose this solution from European Parts after carefully examining and reading reviews in several Porsche forums, mostly because I will be able to open the cap during my next clutch change and check the condition of the roller bearing. If you use other sealed products, you will not be able to do so Solutions that bear weight. My understanding of the technology used at their website is good and my understanding of the installation videos is clear and simple. I am comfortable with working on vehicles, so I pace this job at a difficulty level of 5/10 (1 being oil changing and 10 being engine rebuilding). Two IMS replacements have been done by me I used an OEM IMS on two of my vehicles, the first one for a dead 99 Boxster and this one for a dead When I did it the first time, I did not use the recommended tool so it took me a lot longer (4 hours) because I had to 'jerry-rig' it all together Pull the rig with a pulley. The removal tool I purchased this time served as the recommended removal tool, allowing for the task to be completed in only an hour, 1/2 hour for removing and installing the bearing, and 1/2 hour installing the oil pump socket shaft for constant oil flow It would be a good idea to get the tool for removing/installing programs. A tool of this nature can be obtained online at different places, and the price may vary from place to place. Since the EPS kit comes with a tool to assist with installation, the tool would only be needed to remove the original IMS. As of now, I've put 2000 miles on the kit, and an oil change was made after 1,000 miles. The particle count showed that there were none visible, so I say all is well there. With my Porsche, I can now enjoy it the way it was designed to be enjoyed without the fear of destroying the engine.
This is a necessity for those who have Her score was 112430 on the double row bearing stock. It is hoped she will make another $100,000.
There's no point in paying for this product.
The product has been put in thousands of motors by a famous motor builder without.
The quality of the product is good. Videos for installation that are good. The installation process is simple.
Using this elegant solution to solve a problem that, in reality, shouldn't exist in the first place, is a very good idea. It's a shame that Porsche did this. However, I still love cars and I had 6k miles on this bearing kit when I sold my prior 996 when it was sold. The 996 I bought to replace the one I sold has been installed with the one I bought to replace it, and I'm looking for another to replace it with. My question is why is LN so much more expensive, and why do half of their bearings need to be changed.
An amount of dirt was on the part, as if it was a dirty piece that had come off of another car. In lieu of a plastic cap, we would have liked to see the bearings sealed in plastic. Using dirty pieces poses a risk. It will be necessary to clean them thoroughly.
So far, it seems to work. We will keep our fingers.
