I also have a 2011 Mini S and recently replaced this part. The actual sensor was not the same as the one that had been installed in my vehicle previously. My old thermostat housing had no brown plug or bleeder valve. The old thermostat was hardwired and did not have a male connector; instead, it was threaded directly through the hose. My understanding is that this part has been updated since 2007, and while this housing will fit your car, you may not be able to plug in the thermostat. br>I contacted a dealer about it, and this dreadful part has been on a long-term national backorder.

Before you all start tearing me apart, let me explain why I never put it on my car.
- It arrived in an old, rusted box that wasn't completely sealed.
- It came with no packaging at all. br>- It had a cheap look and feel to it, with visible cracks in the seams. br>br>I had read the majority of the other reviews; some people had good luck, while others had problems. I figured I'd take a chance because the cost was low enough. br>br>For a component that appears to be enough of a pain to replace to arrive in such dreadful packaging, I didn't bother putting it on the car for fear of it leaking. br>br>Again, based on reviews, some people like it, while others hate it. To me, the fact that they can't even ship the thing properly indicates that they don't give a damn.
This was purchased in June of 2016 and installed shortly thereafter. This is complete nonsense. I bought this in June 2016 and installed it as soon as it arrived, but it has just recently broken and is leaking coolant through the seam. br>br>Temperature was also included. Because the sensor was defective, I went back to the original for better results. br>br>It was only because I was in a hurry that I ordered it. br>br>Edit: Next time, go for it. br>br> It wasn't the seam that was the source of the problem. It was actually three inches long when it cracked near the seam. This explains why it quickly ran out of coolant. Today (1/24/17), I installed a genuine Mini thermostat without any problems.
The thermostat is built into the housing. It really works. It has a thermostat built into the housing, as well as a temperature probe. Check to see if the back clip is in the groove. I had the lower half of the wire clip off to the side and taught it was in the groove when I checked with the mirror.
This item was purchased to fix a coolant leak from the housing on my 2010 MINI Cooper. After installing the product, the leak was fixed, but I received the error code P0128 - Check Engine. Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature indicates that the engine does not reach the desired temperature after a sufficient amount of time has passed, or that it takes too long to warm up. I returned the item for replacement, but the problem persisted. I decided to spend an extra $60 on a housing from Bavarian BMW, which fixed the leak and cleared the codes.
After a month of good service, it began to leak coolant all over the place. Never again will I purchase a motorad device. It was far more expensive to deal with the hassle and pay for a tow than it would have been to simply purchase an original Mini unit.
Simply make a purchase. Out of the box, there was a problem with the temperature sensor. Simply go to Mini and purchase one. It isn't a significant increase in cost.
PLASTIC AND HEAT WILL ALWAYS BE ANNOYING TOGETHER AFTER A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME. BUT IT COMES COMPLETE AND IS THE ONLY ONE OF ITS KIND.
After spending the entire day trying to figure out what went wrong, this product arrived with a dead coolant temperature sensor preinstalled. Everything went back to normal after we replaced the coolant temperature sensor in the old thermostat housing. Always keep in mind that just because a part is new does not mean it will work!.
