When the vehicle is not in use, I keep mine connected at all times. I've had mine for about two years and have had no problems with it; the CTEK is designed to keep the battery charged to its maximum capacity while never overcharging it. Leaving hooked in the winter should be no problem.
You can charge acid and agm batteries with the same charger, but lithium batteries require a separate charger.

This is an excellent charger that clearly displays what it is doing to the battery, which is far more useful than the standard red/green charging light found on most low-cost models. I've never used a lithium charger before, and I'm still undecided. So far, this product has proven to be effective. The light indicator makes it simple to figure out where you are in the charging process. It's small and compact, and it easily fits into the included bag.
