Two mounting positions are included on the bottom of the steering shock. IMPORTANT The 2008 model requires a 10mm mount. For 2009 and later models, 8mm is the recommended thickness.

Does the cylinder collapse in a specific way? As it stands, this is my second case that comes fully extended when it is received, and it won't collapse or expand! ?

As a matter of fact, I changed mine years ago and remember that getting the steering wheel adjusted was daunting. I googled steering wheel adjustments for a Polaris ranger and found two or three YouTube videos that explained how to do it. The cylinder release is collapsed when the lever is lifted to hold it where you wish Good luck! I hope it will help.
