The outer layer is made of a tough synthetic material. If you're wondering if it's made of brittle plastic, the answer is no, and I replace the rollers every 4500 kilometers as a matter of course. I know, I'm a nerd for engineering, but they appear to hold up well in that time frame with very little wear.

Last week, I replaced the variator on my Wolf 50cc scooter. The variator came with eight different weights. 5 grams, which is far too much for a 50cc bike, compared to the 8. 8 grams. The acceleration was extremely slow with 5 gram weights. These six were installed by me. This morning, I added 5 grams of weight to the scooter, and it now accelerates like it's brand new.
