Questions & Answers
They're stainless steel strips that attach to the Honda NeXite Mower's deck. They're made to protect the sides of the NeXite decks from gouges and scuffing if you hit something hard with the mower (fence, rocks, edging, etc.).
The screws are not damaged by the blade.
Drilling is necessary, but because the deck is made of plastic composite, it is a simple task. There is no voiding of the warranty in this case. It's a breeze to accomplish.
I'm not sure how long or wide it is, but it fits the Honda 21" deck. Mine hasn't rusted in six years, so it's most likely stainless steel.

It does exactly what it says. To avoid a gap between the deck and the guard during installation, bend it in the opposite direction than you might think. First, bend it to the deck's curve. This bend can be used to install the first fasterner as well as to locate and double-check the location of the second fasterner. Look for the second hole's location. However, before you go ahead and install the final bolt, turn the guard around. This will ensure that the guard applies pressure to the middle area of the installation, resulting in a gap-free result.
When they realized the plastic wouldn't hold up, they added it as an afterthought. I followed all of the instructions for installation, but both of mine have small gaps. The key is to use multiple clamps to perfect the bend radius before drilling both holes.
There is room for improvement in terms of design. Aluminum is too light, too pliable, and too narrow. It only took me 30 minutes to put both sides together, but they aren't designed to adequately protect the mower edge. As you can see in my video, the edge is unprotected 1/4" from the plate from top to bottom and needs to be 1/2" wider or greater. At the very least, make it much thicker, stronger, and wider, as well as adjust it to the curvature of the mower edge for a better fit. The plate and the deck edge are now separated by a small gap. You can bend this plate to the curve of the edge in any way you want, but it will never fit properly. To me, this is just an easy way, a poor man's design, a quick way of not thinking about it and/or not putting in the effort to design it much better for a proper fit, rather than 2 thin flat pieces of metal that are poorly designed. It's not worth it to spend $20 and drill two holes in the deck. 00, as well as the time spent on this. I can't send it back because my deck has two holes in it. I'd rather have it without it, with no scratches, because I mow very carefully, than have these unsightly two pieces of flat metal on my mower that don't serve the purpose for which it was designed. br> Honda is simply looking for a way to profit from a blunder like this. I strongly discourage you from doing so. Don't throw away your money, time, or effort.
This is a good product that should come with the mower as standard. br>br>The finish on the strips is disappointing; I expected perfection from a Japanese product, but in reality, these will be scratched, so it doesn't matter. br>br>Because I didn't have a 17/64, I used a 1/4 drill, which worked fine and the fasteners went in without a hitch. br>br>I had a small gap; if I wanted to be sure there wasn't one, I'd clamp them in a few places before drilling the hole. br>br>Loctite isn't required because the lock washers are nylon. br>br>To keep the bit from walking away from the mark, I used an all to mark the deck. br>br>And the washer goes on the inside of the deck, not between the deck and the strip, to distribute the load of the fastener.
This is adequate; however, it would be better if it came standard with the mower. You'd think that with a $900 mower, something as basic as this would be included. br>br>In terms of setup, it is straightforward. Simply take your time aligning the plates in a straight line. If you don't have a 17/64 drill bit, a 1/4 inch drill bit will suffice; however, self tapping is preferred, and threads should be sealed with Loctite. The measurements provided in the instructions are only a guideline for where to drill the first hole. All you have to do now is align it in the middle and you're ready to go. A screwdriver and a 7/16-inch wrench will be required.
It's a reasonably priced accessory (in comparison to the cost of a mower) that has proven to be a valuable asset. I've found it to be extremely useful in confined spaces, such as elevators. Curbs and walls are located next to each other. fences. It's a neat feature that not only improves the mower's appearance but also serves an important purpose: it protects the mower's deck. br>Today's Guard Kit is less expensive than it was when I purchased it. Mine was put in on October 16th. I used a piece of red rubber from a shower curtain as a base. It added detail to the Guard by acting as a gasket between the Guard and the deck.
If you have a 217 Honda mower, these are a must-have accessory. When I first got it home, I warned that tearing up the sides and cutting along decorative stones would be problematic. blocks. I planned on making my own guard plate out of some scrap stainless steel I had on hand. After that, I noticed Honda's own factory plates. I PURCHASED THEM AND HAD THEM ON PRIOR TO THE NEXT CUT. THE BEST DECISION I'VE EVER MADE. I would have had to buy a new deck if the sides hadn't been saved. Because of the cost, they should be built into the mower from the factory. YOU WILL NEED THESE PLATES. (affordable insurance for the ave deck).
Honda has produced a high-quality piece. Take your time, double-check your measurements, and strictly adhere to the instructions. The flat head bolts are likely to be larger than any screwdriver you have in your toolbox. Use a quarter for this. I didn't have any of the gaps that some people were complaining about, but keep in mind that this is a BUMPER, not a beauty piece. It will only look as good as the amount of time it takes the person to put it together.
