As evidenced by others who have purchased this gauge in the past, the 2614Z gauge you will most likely receive will have all white numbers, as evidenced by others who have purchased this gauge in the past. I say most likely because mine also arrived, 11- There are 20 numbers in total, all of which are white. This isn't a major flaw or a deal breaker, but the product is inaccurately described. This is confirmed by a visit to the AutoMeter website: The current 2614Z gauge numbers are all white. br>If you want an amber vac/boost gauge, look for SportComp series model 3303 with SILVER housing. Because the housing is made of plastic, applying a Sport Comp-inspired design to it is a good idea. It is not a difficult project to paint the silver 3303 gauge housing black. br>Now for the gauge- It is not made of steel, but of plastic. It comes with a wire side contact incandescent bulb. The bulb socket contacts do not grip the bulb well, and the bulb fell into the gauge as I was finishing up the final installation. A car with a stiff suspension, such as one with a turbo, could eventually dislodge the bulb from its socket while driving over a bumpy road. So I loosened the contacts a little to get a better grip on the bulb. br>I had some LED bulbs lying around that I hadn't installed for my car's license plate, so I used one for this gauge. To match the back of the camera, I used a red lens cover. In my car, I have illuminated gauges. If you're replacing this gauge with an LED, turn it on before you finish to make sure it works; LEDs are polarity sensitive; if it doesn't, reverse the bulb installation. br>I recently replaced a 40-year-old VOD vac/boost gauge system on a turbo car I built in the early 1980s with this Autometer gauge for my Mazda Speed6. The VDO 15 psi gauge had to be replaced after I installed a TurbSmart duel BOV a few days ago. br>Unless it's against the law, I mounted this gauge to the windshield, close to the A pillar. The VDO gauge housing, which has a swivel mount that I glued to the windshield with clear RTV sealant, is also from 40 years ago. During daylight, the gauge lighting with red lens appears to be plenty bright with the LED bulb, so it should be fine at night.
I found a like-new item for half the price of a new gauge and ordered it. I knew there had to be something wrong with it, but I'm a resourceful person, so I took a chance. The gauge I received was in excellent condition, except for the fact that the needle read 3 in/Hg at rest, which I knew would lead to inaccurate boost readings, so I fiddled with it a little. I gently pried on the coil until it read 0 and double-checked with a hand vacuum pump and gauge. It's now perfect, and it's been running smoothly for the past six months. I couldn't have asked for a better gauge in terms of quality. It's silky smooth, with no catches or bounces. I would have happily paid full price if it had been available.
The gauge's print is solid white, not yellow as depicted in the photo. I used a short led to replace the stock bulb, and it looks fantastic. NOTE: If you replace the bulb, make sure it's not too long when fully seated, as this will press against the internal spring mechanism, causing the gauge's calibration to drift.
Advertising that is deceptive. The colors in the photo do not correspond to the product that was shipped.
The photo is deceiving. There are no yellow VAC numbers, and all of the numbers are white. Amber light is dim, but it isn't a bad thing. The light is barely amber, more like yellow, and it illuminates the entire face from the sides. Even in a pickup truck from the mid-2000s, it looks dated.
I would have given 5 stars if they hadn't sent me all white instead of the two-tone color I requested. However, it functions perfectly and is a fantastic addition to my 2000 Audi!.
This link should be avoided at all costs. It appears that I wasn't the only one who received the incorrect item. Instead of the 2614, I received a Vacuum 4384, as shown in the photo. What a letdown!.
It's a nice piece that's not too expensive and looks great in my car.
