Setup is simple, and the rain fly is quite loud
4/5

This tent appeals to me on the whole. It's a lot easier to go to the mountains on the spur of the moment because of how easy it is to set up and pack down. Not to mention the fact that it is permanently attached to my truck, making it difficult to forget. br> The tent is about ten feet off the ground because it is mounted on a contractors rack on a full-sized pickup truck with oversized tires. To get the tent to open to the side of the vehicle instead of the back, I had to drill new holes in the mounting rails to bolt it to, but that was due to the contractors rack. This would not be necessary if the roof rails were properly installed. Aside from that, the setup was fairly simple; I used a forklift due to the height at which I was mounting the tent, but two people should be able to lift it onto an SUV roof without too much difficulty. The tent takes about two minutes to set up once it has been mounted. It takes about five minutes to repack it. All of the straps used to secure the folded tent are strong two-inch nylon webbing, and the cover is a heavy-duty rubberized material that should last a long time. br> The floor is insulated, with a three-inch memory foam mattress on top. This tent is one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. It's a step up from most cots and a far cry from sleeping on the ground. There's nothing quite like a hammock for comfort, but there's not much else. I also appreciate the inclusion of an "accessories kit. " The items aren't particularly high-quality, but it's something the company didn't have to do. br> When it comes to sleeping in the tent, the issues arise. Condensation is the first issue to address. I expected this to be a problem because this is a single-wall tent. The tent must be opened and aired out to dry after returning from a trip. This has only been a problem on cold nights (below 0 degrees Fahrenheit). This isn't a major problem, but it's worth noting. br> The rain fly is the other problem, and the reason for the one-star rating. Any wind greater than ten miles per hour makes this thing inside the tent sound like a jet engine. "It sounds like God is trying to kill you," my brother said when he first heard the noise. I had properly installed and tightened the rain fly. The rain fly bent all the poles and tore itself away from the nylon webbing used to tighten the rain fly down on my third trip with the tent, when the winds reached over 50 miles per hour. This ended up being a blessing because the tent became much quieter after that. br> I no longer use the rain fly and only use the tent. I usually camp in dry climates, but there have been times when I've awoken to several inches of snow on the tent and no leaks. The tent fabric appears to have some sort of DWR coating. br> Overall, I am pleased with the tent. It's simple to put together, made of durable materials, and comfortable. It would have been a five-star tent if not for the rain fly. This could be a problem with any rooftop tent. Keep in mind that this is the only one with which I am familiar.

Ensure that all seams and stitching are in good working order
4/5

This tent is one of my favorites because it has provided excellent service to my family. We managed to fit myself, my wife, our 7-month-old daughter, and two 60-pound dogs inside. It was a tight fit, but we made it work since the weather turned bad. I wish the rain fly was a little more secure and didn't collect water. br>I'll admit that when I first got it and installed it on my truck, the first thing that happened was that the material just fell off of the tent when I lightly grabbed it to open the awning. The edging was only lightly sewn onto the tent material, allowing it to easily pull away. See pics. br>I contacted the company, but they couldn't do much more than tell me to return the entire package. That's something I didn't want to do because it's so inconvenient. I probably should've done it. I had hoped to receive a replacement cover, but no such offer was made. I stopped receiving responses to my updates at one point, so the 5-year warranty appears to be a major pain if it is ever used. To fix it, my wife and I had to resew the entire run of about 5' and other areas, which was quite frustrating while on the vehicle. br>br>The inside of the tent was littered with aluminum shavings. The tent was poked by them as a result of this. To avoid damage, I had to disassemble it and vacuum it out. Although the mattress claims to be 3 inches thick, it is more likely to be 2 inches thick. I ended up buying a 1 inch king size foam topper, cutting it to size, and installing it inside of the mattress cover because there was enough room. br>br>It comes with a lot of accessories, which is a big plus. The pillows, however, are not suitable for us due to their stiffness and lack of height. If I had waited, this tent would have taken a little longer to ship. They or someone else would have sold me a hard shell tent. But. They weren't available at the time, and recovering the tent with a cover or opening it with velcro all around is a major pain; a zipper would be preferable. I understand that this appears to be a large number of issues, and for the price, it should be much better, at least in my opinion. Maybe it was a rush job and the quality suffered as a result. Aside from those flaws, the tent has served us well on our camping excursions.

This is a fantastic RTT for a beginner
3/5

We've had a few thoughts after running this tent for the better part of a season. br>First and foremost, for the price, these are quite good! br>Note that while the website advertises a 3" thick high density foam mattress, the tent we received was only 2" thick and not nearly as comfortable as some of our previous tents. If they haven't changed what they ship, expect to add an auxiliary pad to your mattress. br>The cover is in good condition, but it arrived with a few abrasions that were patched. The cover fits snugly, but the Velcro that secures it to the tent is already showing signs of wear and tear, and the sewed seams are beginning to unravel. br>This tent is large enough to comfortably accommodate two adults and a child. More than that, it becomes tense very quickly. br>One of my major gripes is that the bar that holds the annex section out of the tent has no good storage space and must be removed in order to fold it. This has repeatedly proven to be a source of frustration. br>A small pocket where the tie down ropes could be stored for transport would be a nice addition for others. br>br>Hope this helps anyone else who wants to go overlanding!.

On a custom-built trailer, the OVS Nomadic 3 Roof Top Tent
5/5

The item arrived in good condition. Since TToc Trailers built the custom trailer, I had the tent sent to them to install. The pillows, table, and dustpan/broom were not delivered. Even though the tent is the most important item, I still give it an excellent rating. It was brought home today, and after a few times of practice, it is very simple to open and close. Plenty of storage, a king-size bed, and an LED strip are all excellent features. The mattress is comfortable and allows a 6'4" 300lb man to stretch out without difficulty. Because we are older and have had two recent knee replacement surgeries, we kept the tent lower on the trailer, so the telescoping ladder is ideal because we can adjust it. Thank you, Tamara Galindo.
