I had an issue with the latter. Here is what I did. Because the wiring from the winch to the battery was contacting the grill, it was impossible to mount the winch to the winch plate using the pre-drilled Trying to relocate the solenoid did not work either. I don't think that would solve the problem, but if you decided to cut a hole in the grill, that would probably help. After digging a little deeper, I discovered the Smittybilt XR Gen3 is a little wider than the previous XR Gen2. My bumper had been replaced with a Rugged Ridge Spartan by the time I discovered this, and a Harbor freight Apex 12 K winch had been added by then. Putting this combination together was a breeze. It is only the additional weight that is a problem.

In summary, let me make this clear. This is my first winch I have ever installed or used. I was able to get the hang of it easily. It also fits perfectly on my FJ Cruiser because it has the Smittybilt M1 bumper installed as well. As you might have noticed, I had to grind a small piece off the bumper to make room for the The cake is the only thing I can't live without. So it is difficult for me to describe it in detail due to the fact that I am yet to use it in reality. In spite of all the snow we have been receiving in the mountains and the lockdown at home I haven't had any problems. For the most part, the quality is excellent. Right out of the box, the wire / housing or whatever you want to call it had some scuffs on it. As far as my package is concerned, it looks like someone beat the crap out of it. I think it was bruised due to the weight of it. As for the winch itself, it was excellent. As for the wired controller, it was fine. It's going to be tough for me to replace it without Smittybilt. As soon as it came out of the box, it was already ripped. It should be delivered to me as soon as possible. Smittybilt will be updating my review if they reply to my email and answer my questions. I think this is a win for me so far. So I contacted smittybilt and they had no problem taking care of the issue. Update April 25 2020 Update So I contacted smittybilt again and they handled the issue just fine. It only took me a few minutes to open a ticket to show a picture of the problem and within three days I was given a new The customer service at Smittybilt is outstanding. I have changed my review to a 5-star rating.
It was a terrible The winch was installed fully before it was tested (rookie error). In terms of the winch itself, it operates, but the quick release tab on the remote jack was broken and I was unable to remove it. It took me a long time to break the jack on both the remote side and the control box side (male and female sides). It seemed more reasonable to expect that customer support would be willing to send replacement parts rather than having to spend a full day uninstalling the bumper and winch without assistance. I believe that the customer service department at Smittybilt has been a total failure. After speaking with two phone reps and one email rep, I was assured that parts would begin to arrive in the mail as soon as possible. My order has now been 6 weeks old, but I have not received any parts or shipping confirmations. On hold, you will wait up to forty minutes, and you will not receive a reply from them. The last smittybilt product I will purchase is this one. I own several other smittybilt products, but this one will be the last. Be very careful when dealing with Smittybilt.
Smittybuilt's Gen 3 winch has many excellent features and is protected against water ingress, and it has a light over the spool which is more useful than I anticipated, it can easily be seen even in daylight that the rope is spooling in the This remote has built-in light, magnet mount, and temperature, load, and direction indicators. It is easy to use, and has nice features. It is all very useful information. A more compact winch than a comparable Warm winch, this winch seems well-made, tough, easy to install, and easy to mount on standard mounting patterns. I have had no problems with the synthetic rope, which seems very strong, and has been able to withstand a heavy directional pull, as well as abrasion from rocks, pine needles, and the ground. In addition, each end of the rope is well protected. As it turns out, I removed the hook and replaced it with a Factor55 closed connection point and I have to admit that it took me some time and I destroyed two metal cutting blades that were of high quality. The winch proved to be much more challenging than expected, which may be a sign of how tough it Other brands do not provide the features, durability, or price point that this brand does.
I think this is a quality winch for its price. pull my Jeep Gladiator in neutral while my transfer case was in neutral and it was pulling some loose stones. As I was watching the load on the winch, I also applied some tension by locking the rear wheels and pulling a lose stone into it. This made it pull great. Directions are clear and easy to follow. The fishbone is mounted to the bottom half Bumper with winch mount recessed into the width.
As I pulled my truck up an incline, I wound the spool with pressure. It worked perfectly. There could be more space between the instructions and what they should do. The one I have so far is great.
Everything you need to get your setup up and running is included. The installation on my new Honda Prerunner bumper was simple. I mounted it to my My body has plenty of strength to pull me out of a nasty mud hole. You can find her on IG at @tula1953r.
With its cool remote and great looks, it's an awesome thing to have on your Jeep. Getting out on the trails is on my bucket list.
It was sent out quickly and they did not haggle about what was wrong.
