Can you tell me what this is? How does it say it's a light channel when there are no lights in the picture?

If you do not have any lights, it is for covering the channel of light. This just improves the look of the pushbar. With lights installed, they will come with a cover that is different from the original.

Do the mounting screws come with the unit?

You will find screws and lockwashers included, but if yours get lost, there are M4 screws that are about 30mm long in their place
