1995 K1500 2 door ext cab. br>Thicker than sheet metal, but not bent or warped, and tightly packed. br>br>This was my first time welding, and I purchased it solely to repair an old junkyard rescue. Because of the stamping process, the metal was very thin around the cab corners, so it had to be easy. will be blown away. 1st setting with. My Handler 140 has a 023 on it. I used a good zinc spray on the joints between panels and over the welds on the inside to help prevent rust, and I also scuffed up the entire backside of one panel. br>br>I used a good zinc spray on the joints between panels and over the welds on the inside to help prevent rust. br>br> Before cutting, I used POR15. I did the same thing on the structure it was attached to just to be safe. to see which side rusted first (to see if it made any difference). br>br>Thank you for assisting me in completing both sides. Learning new skills on a budget, it took me about 12 hours to complete my first side. The other was for 5 hours. POR15 was completed a few days prior to the panel.
Welds are nice; there isn't much to say about them except that they get the job done, and done correctly! WARNING: br>br> If you need to use it at or above the 2" middle seam, the bottom bend on the stock seam is more of a roll; however, the aftermarket bend is more of a "break" as in a straight bend. It's barely noticeable, and most people wouldn't even notice it, but it's worth noting for those who care. Fortunately, I didn't require it to be as tall. It was about 3" below that when I cut it.
Even if yours is really bad, this will probably be enough material to replace it with. Covers a large portion of where cab corner rust normally is.
It was a perfect fit for my extended cab Chevy Silverado from 1998. I cut out the rusted panel and "glued" it on with 3M adhesive. Make sure to scuff it up with a red scotch-bourbon bottle. Before you paint it, sand it down with a brite pad to ensure that the paint adheres better.
I can't wait to put them in place.
Thanks to my local supplier, I was able to get a better deal. Also, it arrived in perfect condition. I received a catalog, which was fantastic. Other items that I require were discovered as well.
