It does not make square cuts. I returned I am saddened by the poor performance of the trimmer. After trying it out, I decided to return There is a negative side to this The guide at the top is made of plastic, and as other reviewers have also noted, it is NOT flat. This could be explained by the fact that it does not make square cuts. A rectangular piece of paper cannot be lined up square against it because of its shape. Also, although it does a decent job of cutting, occasionally the cut side of the paper gets stuck in between the blade and the board. This would not be an issue if you were cutting away something you don't need, but I usually cut prints in half, so I need both sides. As such, it sometimes bends or marks the right side in a way that is very irritating. A good start In addition, the cutter has quite a good weight to it because the surface is made of particle board. However, it is really disappointing that the plastic guide at the top ruins an otherwise good quality cutter. The blade and the arm are both premium quality, so it is a real pity that they skimped on the plastic guide. When I thought the prices of the cheaper cutters were comparable, I thought I would be able to get better quality by spending about $20 more. -I didn't expect that you would be so professional We wanted a level cutter that could handle the number of sheets they promise and make easy, accurate cuts. Unfortunately, we could not afford such a cutter. The return is a necessity in my mind, and I can't recommend the model, since it has received complaints concerning the bent plastic guide and the fact that sheets can bend and stick. It seems pretty clear then to me that it's a design defect and not a mere coincidence.
" It looks like the metal guide along the back curves away from the blade as it approaches Using a flat part of the blade would be more accurate, but it is still not exactly 90 degrees. It makes every cut almost square, but nobody ever gets it perfect. In any event, the printed lines are perfectly aligned with the blade, so if you align your work with those lines, you should be fine. It takes much more effort to press against the metal stop at the back than to simply press against it. This should have been thrown away years ago and I should have bought a new one.
As both my wife and I own businesses, we occasionally need to cut and fold paper for gift certificates and marketing materials, so this was a great purchase for us. In our use of it, it is light duty, and it is the perfect tool for its intended use. Item was very reasonably priced, and feels like a better product than many units I've seen in stores for more than twice the price. The laser cuts like a laser. It's very high quality, sturdy, and lasts for a very long time. There is no cheap feel to it at all. As far as I know, it will last us forever. For those looking for a light to medium duty paper cutter that is affordable, high quality, and light to medium duty, this product is a good option. For the price, I really don't think you'll find a better product. Oh, that's right, I forgot to mention it's made by Swingline, which makes some excellent When I opened it I didn't realize it was this, and I'm very pleased that The update is as follows

Swingline Customer Service is excellent because it goes the extra mile! The Swingline ClassicCut 15 inch guillotine paper trimmer, which I purchased from Amazon in July 2009 for my use at home, was a simple but effective product- Customized note cards and greeting cards are offered by this Chicago-based company. Based on the solid research- I found that the measurements on my trimmer were slightly out of square and cut 3 pieces of heavy card stock with little effort. However, the built-in trimmer was completely cutting through the paper with little effort. My mistake was blaming the card stock rather than the trimmer since it was so close. When I confirmed that the cutter was at fault in January 2010, it was too late for me to return the item As a result of a whim, I contacted Swingline via their website and explained my plight. It took Swingline no time to send me a new replacement, without any questions asked on my part. Obviously, my original Swingline trimmer doesn't have the same problem. I will continue to buy Swingline products because I believe it was a rare occurrence. Moreover, they deserve to be rewarded for their outstanding customer service.
After carefully cutting through some heavy chipboard, I noticed that the blade alignment wasn't quite right, and it stopped cutting quite as smoothly even after the alignment was fixed. It would be a good idea to avoid really thick materials. There is a razor sharp edge on the blade. The finger on the end of my hand got caught on its edge a few weeks ago and almost had to be stitched While this is very positive, it is also a negative. It's going to be tough to cut without a sharp blade, so keep that in mind before making a decision!.
