My small sewing projects don't require a whole ironing board, and I'm too lazy to go through the hassle of getting one. The iron is great to have next to my sewing machine to iron out my fabrics and sewing patterns. In the past I had used a Cricut brand mat, and I loved how it was cool on the backside. Contrary to that, this mat does not have any. During the heating process, the mat is heated/steam is released. This means that your counter will not be protected by The steam on the counter is what keeps the mat from moving around, so I don't mind it. I did not see any instructions that explained why it has a pocket on one side. This mat might come in handy for quick cleanups?
