Questions & Answers
PastelMat is suitable for watercolor, gouache, and even acrylic painting. I'd probably choose white PastelMat for watercolor, but anthracite (dark gray) PastelMat can also be used for watercolor.
I'd return it and request an exchange because it arrived damaged. It's too expensive for the paper to be damaged in transit.
It is 9. The size of the print is 5 x 12 inches.
Despite the fact that it appears to be soft, it has been sanded.

I had no idea Pastlemat was having issues with their product when I ordered it in February and didn't bother opening the packages because I wasn't ready to use the paper yet. I decided to double-check my paper after reading posts from other artists on Facebook. The darkest piece of paper did, indeed, have lines running through it. I checked Amazon, but the return window had passed me by! I'm writing to Clairefontaine to request that she replace my darkest paper. The first time I broke down and bought this pricey paper, I discovered it was defective and unreturnable! It's a risky purchase.
I wanted to use a professional, archival paper for this project. Several professional artists who do amazing work recommended this particular brand to me. I plan to try again when I have a subject that requires more color, but for now I'm sticking to hardware store paper for practice.
Clairefontaine is an outstanding publication in general. This paper was purchased for a friend of mine who is an artist and enjoys it. I frequently use their fountain pen friendly paper, which is also fantastic for writing on - Ink never bleeds or feathers on this smooth surface. The only reason I gave it four instead of five stars is because I wished there had been more light-hearted moments. The package included colored paper.
This is entirely my fault. I rushed through the description and mistook the pad for an 18-by-24-inch pad. In this case, the measurements are in centimeters. Make sure you're aware of the small size of the pad you're purchasing. I'm hoping to find this in a larger size because it appears that many artists enjoy using it; however, the size I purchased might be suitable for nature journal drawings.
I wish it wasn't so costly, but it's well worth the money. It improves the quality of my paintings and adds to the enjoyment of painting. If you can afford it, go for it, but I've found that using a harder pastel is better because the rough surface will eat up your pastels faster. Rembrants work well, as do the ones from Dick Blick. By the time you finish your painting, Diane Townsends will be gone, so keep them in mind for highlights. You can also use Pan Pastel to create your first layer, which will save your other materials. This is an incredible piece of writing. Will be able to hold a lot of pastel layers. This was something I had no idea about until I saw some British pastel videos on YouTube. I struggled with pastels until I came across this paper, and now it's my go-to medium. Yes, it is costly, and yes, it takes time to obtain. (For larger sizes, there is no Amazon Prime), but it is well worth it. Did you make an error? Don't throw away the paper; simply brush and vacuum the old pastel off and begin again. Will hold up to washes much better than some higher-priced papers. Get this piece of writing!.
The first time you used it - pastel underpainting on top of a watercolor underpainting. It was very easy to work with several layers of pastel. This is likely to become my favorite surface in the near future. I've always loved working with Uart, but this is a whole new level of complexity.
Pastelmat is still my favorite because it has a lot of tooth without being too grittly. Unlike sanded paper, this paper does not absorb pencils. A happy customer in every way. Thank you very much!.
