Yes, I think so. I've only used the stretcher bars to keep the canvas from stretching out of shape when doing needlepoint. However, I haven't tried it with oil paints.
Wood is unmistakably present in the product. There is no such thing as plastic.
You could use either the 11 or the 12 if the canvas is 12 X 12 (and not the painted design). The excess for the 11 would be folded over. A pair (two sets) is required.
The bars are exactly 18 inches in length. We wrapped a canvas around the bars, with the painted portion measuring 18" and 3" of excess on all sides to wrap and fasten it. We did not frame the photo and simply hung it on the bars. I recommend getting the 14" bars if you're going to do that.

So here's the deal: I'm a newbie. I think I've done about 7 small 5x5 inch projects so far. These frames were purchased for my first large project, a 14x14 inch pillow. I've never used a frame before, so I don't know how they work, so here's some advice I wish I'd known before buying one: First and foremost, if you want your project to fit neatly inside the frame (without having to move it around), order a size that is at least 2 inches larger than your project; I originally purchased 14 inch frames, which were too small. The 15-inch ones are as well. I'm guessing 16 inches will suffice for my 14x14 pillow, but I'm sick of buying new frames. Second: Purchase two pairs of shoes. Each package contains only two sides of the frame for some inexplicable reason. A frame is made up of four sides. Third, because the joints are fairly tight, it is helpful to use a mallet to bang them together. I didn't want to damage the soft wood so I used a rubber mallet instead of a hammer. Fourth: To secure the project to the frame, purchase tacks. Despite their exorbitant price, I purchased Clover brand tacks, and they are actually quite good. Once you've done that, you'll find that this frame is quite functional. It's a solid piece of equipment, albeit a little heavy. It's big enough that I can rest it on my legs while working. Because the wood is soft pine, the thumbtacks go in fairly easily, and these stretcher bars are generally recommended. They make large projects easier to work on, but I don't believe they're necessary for small pieces.
I do a lot of hand embroidery with hoops and started on a piece that was too big for any of them, so I had to purchase this. I found it awkward at first, but I quickly learned to use it and was pleased with the results. Next time, I'll get one that's an inch shorter than the recommended length to make it easier to use. I attached the fabric with brass tacks, which worked great. My fabric stayed taut the entire time I used this frame, and I didn't have to adjust anything.
Some online shops are fantastic, while others are less so. I ordered two sets (sizes) of these from Amazon, one of which arrived in two days and the other in over two weeks, making your project more difficult to complete.
It's simple to use and extremely durable. And it's not even that expensive! For needlework, this is the best option. The embroidery hoops are a real pain to work with. Stretcher bars are the best because they allow you to frame your work as soon as you finish it!.
To keep the canvas in place, I used thumb tacks. It was nice to be able to see the entire piece while I was working on it. It was more enjoyable this way. I may order a larger set for my next cross stitch project because they were so simple to put together. They come highly recommended from me.
Cut precisely for length and cross-section Once the canvas is secured, these bars go together easily and hold well without racking due to their sectional dimension. While the bars' exteriors are well-kept, the interiors aren't. The cuts where the bars interlock have been left a little rough in the finished product. That's fine in terms of their inner surfaces, but splinters and wood whiskers remain, which can snag you if you're not careful or don't remove them. The wood, which appears to be pine, is quite soft.
It was exactly what we needed. We had a variety of sizes of this product, so we went with the 12" set. Exceptional quality. Like the others, in every way.
