Although most acrylic paints will adhere to metal, there are a few things that must be done to the metal first. It must first be washed in warm soapy water and dried before being painted. This paint has been used to paint metal, plastic, and 3D printed items.
It is possible, but you should use a multi-surface outdoor paint instead.
I discovered that lightly sanding the leather, painting a white basecoat, and then applying the color is the best method for painting it with acrylics.

I recently experimented with six different metallic acrylic paints, and the DecoArt Extreme Sheen was the clear winner. In terms of pigment and reflectivity, this is an all-around winner. Surprisingly, all of the metallics I've tried have been slightly sheer, requiring two coats to be opaque, but Extreme Sheen was slightly less sheer than the others. In the photos below, from left to right, are the brands that I've tried: br>a) DecoArts Extreme Sheen 24K Goldbr>b) Sargent Liquid Metal Aztec Goldbr>c) DecoArts Dazzling Metallics Emperors Goldbr>d) Jacquard Lumiere True Goldbr>e) Martha Stewart Metallics Copperbr>f) Martha Stewart Metallics Rose Goldbr>br>br>The Extreme Sheen has the brightest shine of all the metallics, and the shimmer is dense enough The Sargent Liquid Metal was also good, but it had a more sheer finish than the DecoArt Extreme Sheen. Overall, I'd choose the Extreme Sheen over the others.
I adore this product; the sheen and color are stunning, and the paint is simple to apply. br>br>For detail work, I put the paint on a paper plate and used it as a palette, then threw it away when I was finished. br>br>I wiped off the excess paint with a paper towel and then ran some water over the brush to clean it up. I used a second paper towel to dry it.
It necessitates the application of multiple coats. Pros: It's a good idea to use a gleaming gold color - The shine is visible and there is no green or brown tint. br>br>Cons: It's thick enough, but as your brush tries to spread it out, it seems to plow off to the sides, leaving a trench of barely there paint wherever the brush touched it. Although it flattened out as it dried (after a lot of fiddling with the brush), the brush marks and background are still visible. in a variety of locations (I used a black background to paint on. ) )br>br>If you can, I think a flood fill would be the best option for your project; if not, plan on painting multiple coats. br>I don't think anyone will be able to do fine lettering with this (which was my original intention), but it would be ideal for creating a larger flooded gold backdrop for your project.
I haven't used my other gold paint since I got this, and I am very proud of it because I use it on special photos such as our heroes, veterans who have been dropped off at nursing homes, and I can say it's 24 k gold accented.
br>Unfortunately, it's too irredescent for our purposes, but it's a must-have for anyone looking for a deep, lustrous gold finish. Note: Because it's so sparkly, it's best used for Christmas decorations or posters. This paint is not for touching up the gold finish on antiques, but it is of excellent quality.
The color is aided by gold glitter and appears to be 24k (I have a lot of 24k jewelry). Emperor's Gold isn't my favorite, but this one is.
