This surface does not hold anything in place. With a swipe of a finger, the pencil is completely gone. (acrylic) Beads can be painted over the surface of the piece. It is possible that oil paints would be the only thing that would stick to this surface, and I would not There is nothing that can stick to them! Everything slides right off of them. I could have gone to Home Depot and bought MDF board and gesso and saved roughly 80% by doing so. I never will buy these presurfaced again, even though they'd save me lots of time.

According to the description, this panel has a slight tooth and is good for oils and all mediums. However, when I opened it up, I was surprised to find that it has a smooth looking shiny finish that looks silky. As suggested on the label, it might be best to coat with gesso and then sand to give it a more toothy finish! Since I was dissatisfied, I am now gessoing it so that it will have the tooth I believe will be necessary for the use of My understanding of the label on the panel is that the smooth silky finish results in a smooth surface that is suitable for special techniques that I am unfamiliar My previous orders have had more appropriate looking matte finishes that had adequate tooth than all other brands I have ordered in the past. It would not be recommended for oil painting with this panel.

A piece of art board I was using broke and I needed to replace it, but I did not want to spend a lot of money. A search on Amazon led me to the Speeball Mona Lisa Gessoed panels, so I decided to go ahead and order them. The Panels are great. I am so pleased with them. As an artist, I use them because they are the perfect size for my artwork, and the gessoed surface is just toothy enough to hold my paper tape, but smooth enough that I can remove it This is a perfect backer board and I have found no cheaper option than this. I plan to purchase more of these panels so I can paint directly on them to see how well that works, but I have to tell you they are perfect and cheaper than anything else I have seen. don't like those with the handle cut out, because I somehow always manage to make art pieces that cover that handle hole and I can't do what I like.

In my experience as an artist with a Masters in Fine Arts degree, these surfaces are my favorite Slick art boards are great for creating a gorgeous glow when paint is applied. I love it because it's a beautiful and professional product, and I'm also looking for a super smooth surface. My only issue is that I cannot order it from Amazon--I need to go to another website! There is no wrapping around the corners of the boards and the boards are packaged in boxes that are too large. Consequently, during shipping the board winds up sliding around and it gets damaged at all corners.

The way you put it is nice. This is not the right choice if you want a lot of teeth. A corner of this board was frayed, but I'm sure you won't notice since I'm framing it. Package this board with bubble wrap or something in order to prevent damage. The result is that the product works and I am considering purchasing a few more of the same brand in the future.

They were packed way too loose inside the box. This isn't a major issue because it can be fixed. However, it needs to be packaged.

I will not be able to ship them back without incurring costs. There will never be a need for this product again I wish to receive.

This is a smooth surface that is easy to paint. In contrast with other panels, this one applies quickly on its first layer without soaking up paint. Once that's done, you can fill in the strokes with fine lines. However, the cost is quite high.
