I've used a couple of these inch tape makers. What you should know: br>br> br>1) If you're having trouble getting your fabric to peek out enough for you to pull it through, cut a sharp point into it. If you're still having problems, forget about the awl and try spray starch and your iron instead! br>2) When you pull and press the tape maker with the metal side up, you'll get very tight folds that are touching and have no gap between the two raw edges. This is not ideal for binding the edges of curved fabric cuts, in my opinion. I place it metal side down and leave a sixteenth or eight inch between the two folds as they approach the center. br>3) Adjust your cloth back to center if it moves off center at the entry point. If you've already pulled fabric through to press it, simply reverse the tape maker's direction until your cloth is straight. br>4) Don't just stick to bias folds. These tape makers can be used on fabric cut on the grain or cross grain if you need a piece of straight trim. br>5) If you want double fold tape, which is what I use, manually fold your result in half lengthwise and press it as well after finishing the pass through the tape maker. To make it sturdier for sewing, you may want to use starch. br>6) Wrap it around a bias tape card, a ribbon spool, or something stiff to keep the folds in place until you're ready to sew with it. Even if you only stay in this position for a short time, it will help you get back to work. br>br>I enjoy making my own tape now because I can use fabric colors that are complementary to the project, whether they are the same or different.
I can't imagine them breaking unless you step on them or purposefully drive your car over them. They worked well with flannel as well. I like how the turned fabric peeks out from behind a small gap in the center. It's simple to avoid getting off center by keeping an eye on how the folded fabric meets at that gap as you iron. Make sure to start by cutting the end at a slant and pressing all joining seams flat (to make it easier to feed through). Also, when folding them again for double folded tape, keep in mind that one side should be slightly shorter than the other so you can stitch both sides in place. To get the best creases, use the stem. The set with the "awl" isn't required. Simply use your hem ripper to assist in the beginning of your fabric feeding through; it will work perfectly. And, as if that wasn't impressive enough, they arrived in just TWO DAYS! Last but not least, they are measured in millimeters. You can get perfect 1/2" tape by cutting your fabric just shy of 2" wide and using the blue (largest) one. Please don't be hesitant to contact us. YOU WILL REQUIRE THESE!.
It will set you back $0. 00. I then went to Amazon and looked for a different size, and I was able to get the entire set for $7. I returned the other to Joann's without hesitation. They are in perfect working order. My border and bias are the same color. I've included a photograph as an attachment. This was an excellent purchase.
I looked around for these and found that the price at the time of purchase was the best; buying one at a local sewing store costs nearly as much as this package. I've only used the biggest one, but it's been used a lot. It accomplishes the task at hand. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend these to others. The firm was quick to ship. I received them ahead of the scheduled delivery date. Before you begin, I recommend watching a video on how to use these; they are simple to use, but there are a few 'tricks' to them. The more you use them, the less difficult they become. Experiment with different settings to see what works best for you and your projects.
Make your own custom tapes by using novelty prints or other specialty fabrics. There are a variety of effects that can be achieved. I'm having a lot of fun with this, using it for pillows, quilting, appliqué, and even finishing sleeveless summer dresses instead of facings. I'm finding new ways to use this set all the time. It's as simple as following the directions.
The Amazon ad and the box both recommended four pieces. There are five different sizes to choose from. It is simple to work with. You'll need a steam iron to press the folds in the material you pulled through, which should be doubled in size.
These small bias tape makers are such a time saver. This five-piece set is fantastic, and the price is fantastic as well. I tried them all out as soon as I got them, and they're all great. I got exactly what was shown on the website. I'm ecstatic that I won't have to buy bias tape in a package ever again!.
This product was purchased so that I could make bias tape for cloth items, particularly personal face coverings. I usually buy Dritz products because they are of high quality. Unfortunately, Dritz bias tape makers are no longer available in stores. br>After waiting nearly two months for this product to arrive, I eagerly opened the package (it WAS well packaged) and began making bias tape strips for the face coverings I make. I had been hand folding the tapes I made for previous items because the instructions were limited at best, and it was nearly impossible to pull the fabric through the device. I've returned to folding tapes by hand. I would not recommend this product to my family or friends.
