The size 14 might work, but if it breaks, you'll need to upgrade to a size 16. Hand quilting thread is thicker and will help you achieve the finished look you desire.
The needles in this package do not differ in any way. Every single one of them is a 90/14. I grew up in a time when we only changed needles when they broke or we needed a different size, but since I started sewing again a few years ago, I've learned that needles do get dull and can damage the fabric. The needles should be changed every 8 hours of actual sewing time, and this package of five needles includes five of the same needle for your projects.
Schmetz needles can be used in almost any machine. They're what I use in my singer featherweight, so you should be fine. I hope this information is useful. Raylene

Because of the positive feedback, I decided to purchase it. My thread was constantly breaking while I was fmq. The thread would also be sheered. I'm not sure why they aren't doing their jobs for me. I'm sorry, but I don't think it's a good idea.
I've been quilting a lot lately (on an old baby lock). I've had problems with cheaper needles breaking, and these helped a lot until I got into free motion quilting and started snapping needles all over the place. Yes, I am aware that it is I who am addressing you. I also tried using the schmetz topstitch and metallic needles with fancy thread, but they didn't work out. I finally gave up because the thread kept breaking. Organ Perfect Durability Titanium Coated needles have replaced my old ones. This has made a significant difference in my life. Because the PDs are sharp and strong, they pierce quilt layers cleanly and can withstand whatever drag I apply to them while FMQing. Even for regular sewing, I prefer the Organ PD needles, especially on thick seams (canvas and zippers). I haven't tried my existing metallic thread with the Organ needles, and I'm not planning on doing so. I'm switching to Superior thread after the advice of another quilter friend.
I was on the verge of returning my new mini sewing machine because it wasn't working. These needles, along with some much better thread, have improved the machine's vision.
Although this needle works well for topstitching, I prefer to use a different needle. For heavier fabric, regular needles or a jeans needle work just as well. There was nothing noteworthy about it.
What a pleasant surprise to discover such a wide range of fabrics and methods for sewing them together. I noticed differences in the various tasks and a good needle that would be best for the task. I placed an order for the ones that appeared to be the most suitable for the job. I have yet to be disappointed. Right now, this is one of the options I'm happy with.
I didn't want to go to the store, so I was grateful that Amazon had the needle size I needed.
These topstitch needles for sewing were recommended by the quilt shop I frequent because the eyes are larger and easier to thread. Anyone who has difficulty threading their sewing machine needles should try these.
With the metallic thread, it didn't work.
