Questions & Answers

Is this needle the best size for sewing jeans hems, and what thread should I use to repair jeans hems with this needle?

This is the largest needle that a regular (at-home) sewing machine can use, and it's the perfect size for jeans, especially multiple layers of denim if you're repairing or hemming them. The needle can handle a heavier 100% cotton thread that you wish to use on this material as well. A heavy-duty sewing machine should be available in any sewing shop or department of a chain store that has a sewing section. thread for "denim" duty Thank you for your interest.

Is it possible to use these needles to stitch 40 gauge vinyl to canvas?

Yes, if you use a thick thread.

Can it be incorporated into the voice of any performer?

Yes, I believe so. It'll work with my Kenmore sewing machine. (this is a vintage)

For 9 oz leather, what size needle and thread should I use?

I'm sorry, but I'm unable to assist you.

It's a hit or miss situation

It's the first time I've sewed something that thick without having to change needles. br>br>A few weeks later, I had to sew more polypro webbing as well as a more complicated three-layer canvas project. The singer needles worked great at first, but when something went wrong, it went wrong quickly; I must have threaded about 1000 yards through the first one before it broke. It took 5 minutes to replace the part. The third replacement lasted ten minutes, and by that time, I was taking it very easy. I used 5 of these needles to finish my project, which consisted of sewing poly pro webbing and canvas with a maximum thickness of 4mm. br>br>In the end, I purchased schmetz 18/110 needles and have yet to break one.

Soft steel needles bend, or at least did in my case
3/5

I'm not sure if these needles are genuine Singers. For the past 50 years, I have been sewing on and off. These are the most delicate steel needles I've ever encountered. On the first stitch, the first one bowed out. After about twenty minutes, the second one started to bend. I was sewing two light pieces of nylon webbing together with a piece of nylon ripstop. I usually use a 16, but this time I wanted to go with a heavier thread. As a result, I went out and purchased these 18's. I would have expected a better needle for over a buck and a half. I know it's not the machine (Necchi Lydia3) because I switched to a different pack of 16's and was able to complete the project using the same thread. It was possibly a bad bunch. I have no idea.

The needles have an odd consistency
4/5

Between layers of fleece, I sew various types of absorbent or cushioned material. Because the layers can get a little thick at times, I wanted to invest in some heavy-duty needles. For one thing, it's odd that the cases hold more needles than you actually get. I'm still perplexed as to why they don't just put more needles in them and raise the price. It seems obvious to me in this day and age, when everyone despises plastic in landfills. I was breaking or bending the needles at least once a week when all of a sudden I had three in a row that lasted less than ten minutes! Then I put one in, and despite hitting something that sounded like it had been bent five times, I haven't had to change it. I've been using the same needle for over a month and was hesitant to write a review for fear of jinxing it. I'm still using the needle and haven't had any issues with thread coming out of the bobbin area like you do when your needle becomes slightly bent or too dull. Apart from that one needle, I hadn't been particularly impressed up until that point. I'm hoping the rest of the needles are as good as the one I'm currently using.

The needles are incredible
3/5

It was effective on up to six layers of denim. There were only two needles in the package that could be used. I purchased these to use with heavy-duty thread on heavy-duty materials. With six layers of denim, I put one of the needles to the test and it broke. It's quite good. br>br>Now comes the reason for the three-star rating. I realized the third needle was a dud when I went to replace the second. There was no eye on the needle. It's just a solid metal piece. I'm not sure if this is a common occurrence or if it was just bad luck for me. Needles are, however, quite sturdy. If the last one hadn't been unusable, it would have been a 4 or a 5 star product.

These sew through waxed canvas like a dream
5/5

I'm learning to sew and am currently working on waxed canvas seat cushions for an Airstream trailer I'm renovating. I bought these needles after reading that size 16 or 18 is best for waxed canvas, and I'm glad I chose the size 18. It easily sews through the waxed canvas, and I've never had a needle break! I'm using bonded nylon thread, which threads easily through the needle and hasn't caused me any problems. I have no complaints about how well they work with my heavy-duty Singer sewing machine!.

It's fantastic! I'm glad I went ahead and bought the suggested add-on item to go with the canvas fabric I was ordering
5/5

The fabric was easily penetrated by these needles. This is coming from someone who sews because she has to and isn't particularly talented at it; when I find a product that makes my job easier, I am overjoyed! These needles performed admirably, and I never had to replace the first needle I used while sewing six extra-long deck chair cushions! a satisfied customer.

One of the needles had the eye filled with chrome and could not be threaded, so it was potentially defective
3/5

I suppose a few make it through QA, or are they selling factory seconds? It was not worth the time to return; the other needles were fine, but I prefer Schmetz.

Old and new are collaborating
5/5

Fits and operates in a Singer sewing machine from the 1940s, which my mother passed down to me. It is capable of sewing through leather.
