I don't think these are the original needles from the English company; I couldn't even get my thread through the eye. It was impossible to see because the eye was so small.
For my husband, I hand quilted a king-size quilt and hand-bound the bias edge. These needles are flawless, staying sharp while remaining flexible. The needle had only developed a slight bend after the quilt had been completed. As a result, I'm relieved that they're available in multiples. The needles are free of burrs and glide easily through fabric. These are needles that I strongly recommend.
These are extremely useful for shibori. I love hand stitching for resist dye/hand dyeing techniques; I've tried many different needles, but this one is narrow enough that it doesn't cause holes in my fabric while also allowing me to load up enough material on the needle at once to make it go quickly. These are usually used for different folding and stitching techniques (e. g. , ori- maki o nui o nui o nui o nui stitching and open-weave nui shibori), as well as stitching and open-weave nui shibori binding of wounds (e. g. , hanawa shibori), and mokume or karamatsu shibori, both of which use double-thickness upholstery thread on cellulose fiber. I've only worked with silk a few times, and these needles (or thread) may be too large for the finest silk. On heavier weight silks, however, they work well (using a single thread thickness). They last a long time and only slightly bend after heavy use, according to me.
THOSE WITH A NICKLE ALLERGY BEWARE. I understand that I have a more severe allergy than most people, but nickle burns my skin. Beautiful needles, but I'm unable to use them because they are nickle plated, despite the fact that this was not stated in the listing.
25 in. They're long and sharp, but they're a little thin for the job. I do all of my quilting by hand with very small stitches. It takes a lot of effort to thread the needle through two layers of fabric and batting. These are extremely fine needles. They are prone to bending after about 30 minutes of quilting.
I bought them to use Japanese cotton basting thread, and threading them without a needle threader is impossible.
Sharp and powerful. Still looking for my favorite, but now-discontinued Wright's EZ quilt brand blasting needle, and these come pretty close.
I've been using this brand of needles for over ten years and I love them! They come in handy for basting quilt top edges on my long arm, burying thread tails on finished quilts, hand finishing quilt binding, and almost any other time I need to hand stitch. Threading these is simple, and they're long enough to be comfortable to hold.
