Xbox 360 Live 12 Month Messenger Gold Pack

It's preferable to nothing. So, first and foremost, let me provide some context. Prior to purchasing this package, I had been an Xbox Live gold member. Early in 2010, my subscription was about to expire, and I needed to renew it. Microsoft (M$) sent me an email about an automatic renewal using my credit card on file. I like to buy points in order to buy DLC (downloadable content, for those who aren't familiar with all of these acronyms). I'm not a big fan of self-driving vehicles. renew, not because it's easy, but because Microsoft's own service isn't the best deal in town. br>br>In general, 12-month contracts are available. For less than $49. 00, you can get a month subscription card. You'll have to pay 99 M$. In fact, Amazon and Walmart (do I have permission to use that phrase?) Recently, there was a price war between the 12- and the 12-year-olds, and the 12-year-olds won. The price of the month card has dropped to just $30! So, if I'm going to spend that much money on something, what else can I get? br>br>When I came across this package, I decided it was time to add it to my collection of Xbox games. I already had a headset and PGR 4 (Project Gotham Racing 4, but not the 12-inch version) installed. The month card and the text pad were both brand new additions to the collection. As a result, I decided to buy the whole package. Overall, if you don't have any of the items in the package, it's a great addition to your collection. I'll break it down for future buyers piece by piece:

- Month to Month Subscription - Xbox Live is a fantastic experience. It's something I can't stress enough. The only drawback is the yearly fee; other companies do not charge for using their system to play online games, whereas Microsoft does. I still think it's worthwhile, but I'm hoping that one day it'll be closer to the $30 mark if purchased directly from Microsoft. Because of this, the package did not receive a 5-star rating. a rating of five stars

- Headset - This is the same headset that comes with all of the consoles. It's a simple headset, but it gets the job done. It isn't a Turtle Beach headset, but it is excellent!

- Pad for Text - This is well worth it if you have friends on Xbox Live with whom you can exchange messages. This is preferable to voice messages for me. The text pad is excellent, allowing you to quickly type and insert symbols. It's also lightweight, so it won't get in the way of using the controller unless you hold it in the middle. For those who prefer to play in the dark, it is also backlit. Big fan!

- PGR 4 - I'd write a separate review for it, but it's well worth the money at this price. One of my favorite series is Percy Jackson and the Goon Squad. This time around, it includes both high-end sports cars and motorcycles. It also has a more arcade race feel than a simulator, which makes it more enjoyable for those who enjoy drifting and button mashing their way to the finish line. br>br>Overall, 4-stars. star rating, but it's closer to a 4.

It simplifies any task that requires entering information, such as a shipping address or configuration data. Because the chat pad provides an elegant solution for entering anything that requires typing, you'll probably come out ahead even if you only use the membership card from this bundle. br>br>The headset is a basic wired one. Even if you already own a headset, this one is practically "free" in comparison to purchasing the chat pad and membership separately. Even if it wasn't included, the package would still be a good value, and having a spare won't hurt. br>br>Read the video game's reviews in its listing to see if it's something you'd like. If you don't want it, you can always sell it or give it away, but given the glut of them on the market as a result of people buying this package, you shouldn't expect to get much for it. Similarly, if the game is a big draw, you could get it for less money if you don't have this package. If you purchase the package instead of the game and membership, you may receive a "free" chat pad and headset. br>br>In conclusion, if you require even one of the items in the package in addition to the membership, you are likely to benefit from the rest of the package. Although it is unlikely that Microsoft will offer discounts for the basic membership when it comes time to renew, this may not be the case in the future. If they offer you a renewal at a 40% discount, you should consider purchasing the pack if you had absolute plans to purchase another chat pad or wanted both the game and headset. br>br>If you do decide to renew on line, make sure to cancel automatic renewal once your purchase is complete; this package may turn out to be your best option in the future.

This is something I got a long time ago when the black chat pad was still unavailable. So, if you're looking for black, you should know that it's now available. br>br>Anyway, at the time, a chat pad, headset, game, and a year of live service was a great deal. What is there not to adore about this? br>br>Because I never played the game and instead traded it in for something else, I can't comment on it. Having a chat pad on my controller is a nice feature; it makes responding to people so simple that it's almost comical. I've noticed that some of the paint on the keys is peeling away, allowing a little more light to shine through, but it's only in a few spots and hasn't affected the lettering yet. br>br>As for the headset, it gets a lot of use; for some reason, people can't hear me well with the black headset that came with my elite, but they can hear me fine with the one that came with this box; they both look the same to me except for the color, so go figure. br>br>It's been a year since I've been live, and I'm now on a new subscription. Live has always been a good value in my opinion. br>br>Just keep in mind that there is now a black version available.
