As for the dimensions of the step itself, I can see it's 4" high, but can you tell me what the length and width are?

I know this fits exactly under the Wii board. The Wii board's feet fit in it to raise it evenly so that it can be stable for playing wii fit games. My wife bought it for her sister-in-law, but I know it fits under the Wii board. Each corner riser of the chair is connected with cross bars. Although it is not a solid piece like a block of wood, after your Wii board is placed on top of its surface, it is open (somewhat) beneath View it from above, and you may only see a step up that sticks out about a quarter of an inch on all four corners if you already have the wii board. This may be of help to you.

However, I am sure it will be a great workout regardless of whether I have tried it. With a Wii game I am sure it will burn and tone - I used to own a stepper similar to this. The other one helped me lose over 40 pounds, so I am excited to try this one.
