I've been playing games since the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), and I've owned every Nintendo system ever released. Mario is one of my favorite games, so when I saw this one with a cool kitty cat power, I was all over it. I spent 30 minutes with my three children playing this game, and I'm pretty sure we're all in need of therapy. The camera has a very short range and follows the person who is moving the fastest. Mario is prone to chasing, which is made more difficult by the camera's limited range. It's also in three dimensions, so there's a foreground and background to explore rather than a single linear path. This game could work as a solo or two-player cooperative game, but not as a four-player game. It also switches your characters at random at the beginning or throughout the game, resulting in a massive tear fest among the young crowd. Not good. Definitely a letdown for the plumber brothers.

I never had a WiiU, so I was completely unaware of the game's existence. As I was "borrowing" my teen-aged brother's Switch, my family got me a Switch for Christmas. The Untitled Goose Game is a game that my teenage daughters enjoy playing a lot. I decided that I wanted to play a Mario game, so I pre-ordered one. I didn't know anything about this one so I ordered it blindly. Our previous Nintendo system was the Wii in 2006, when the kids were younger, and I didn't care for the 3D aspect of the Mario Galaxy game; however, this one appears to do an excellent job with the classic elements of the game while adding some modern movement. This game is a lot of fun for me to play. I'm pretty sure I'll get the game card for both of my kids. This will keep me occupied during the pandemic's winter months.
