How Our Score Is Calculated

Product Description

It can hold your Switch and Joy Con in place and is durable. To save money on a replacement, try DIYing a loose Nintendo switch joycon grip.
NOTE: The original part is plastic and easily damaged; metal alloy joycon latches are recommended for anyone having trouble latching their joycon; when removing the screws, please use caution.
Tip 1: Be cautious of the orange flat wire that runs from the top to the bottom of the Joy Con case. As a result, you'll want to take your time when opening the Joy Con case. When removing the original buckle, be careful not to damage the spring.
Tip 2: There is a difference between the left and right lock buckles. Make sure you don't put them backwards. There is a small iron when the original buckle is removed. You can pry it open with the tweezers.
It comes with one pair of tweezers, one pair of Y Screwdrivers, one pair of X Screwdrivers, and four Joy Con metal lock buckles. We are not responsible for any damage to the switch during repair unless it is done by someone with skilled hands-on abilities.

Questions & Answers

Is it simple to set them up?

It's easier than most hardware modifications I've attempted, but you must still exercise caution. If you're not careful, you can lose screws or the tiny spring, and it's also easy to disconnect the ribbon cables that connect the front and back, which can be difficult to reconnect (though it is possible; I messed up and it still works). On a scale of one to ten, I'd give it a three. I had no issues with stripped screws or anything like that.br>br> Everything went according to plan.

Is it possible that the metal latches will cause damage to the console? Or did they function normally?

Anecdotally, I've seen them chip like the plastic ones on a drop, but they appear to wear out more quickly in normal use. So they should be fine, but proceed at your own risk, as with any unofficial hardware mod.

Will I be able to reinstall the original clips so that my Gamestop warranty is not voided if something more serious occurs? Do the screws have a circular shape?

Yes, you can reinstall the old clips if you're willing to go through the tedious process again, though no one can tell if a joycon has been opened or not. They'll probably just assume it was part of the repair process if you bought it used or refurbished. This is a minor change that will go unnoticed by most people.

Is the spring hole equipped with a center post? I purchased the older version, which did not work without the center post found in the Nintendo version. ?

There isn't a center post, to be sure.

This is an excellent solution to a common issue
5/5

It's simple to set up, but it's not completely foolproof. proof. I've fixed two sets of joycons (two left, two right) with the parts and tools included in this kit, so here are my thoughts: br>br>When properly installed, these do exactly what they should and work flawlessly. They make a very strong connection and solved the issue I was having with the stock plastic ones. Three of my four joycons were loose, two due to normal wear and one due to a fall. These, according to what I've heard, might chip if dropped, but they won't wear out with regular use. From what I've seen, they don't appear to pose a significant risk of system damage, but modify at your own risk. br>br>The procedure itself is simple, but if you're not careful, you could make a mistake. This is a beginner to intermediate mod, but there are a few things to keep in mind: br>br>For starters, there aren't any instructions. It's not difficult or complicated, but I recommend watching someone do it on YouTube first. br>br>This involves removing six screws per Joycon, which are very small and easy to lose. Losing one screw won't hurt you too much, and you can buy replacements for the main ones, but be careful. The latch is spring-loaded. br>br> Because it is loaded, you must remove it with extreme caution, or you risk seeing a tiny spring fly away and disappear forever. If you're aware of the danger, you can easily avoid it; however, don't take a chance and lose your spring. Detaching the ribbon cables that connect the front and back of the joycons is another easy thing to go wrong with. These can be re-created with care. It's fixable (with the help of the included tweezers), but it's a bit difficult. This happened with two of the four I operated on, but both of them worked fine after I reconnected them. It was, however, a bit of a pain in the neck. br>br>On one joycon, I overtightened the screw that holds the latch in place, causing it to stick a little. It behaved normally after I loosen it. So don't worry if the screws aren't tight enough. br>br>Really, that's all there is to it. If you're comfortable disassembling things, these latches are ideal, and they come with everything you need except instructions. I'm really pleased with how they turned out; they're very comfortable. This is a great solution to a common Switch joycon issue, and I'll definitely do it again if I get more in the future. br>br>In a few reviews, it's mentioned that things need to be changed or filed down. This was not my experience, but it's possible that the seller is using multiple suppliers, each with slight variations. Request a replacement if it doesn't fit; mine did.

Switch latches with armor are a must-have! My adorably destructive son is a natural disaster waiting to happen
5/5

In particular, when it comes to Dad's belongings. He yanked the joy switch off of my switch after only a few hours. Like warm butter on freshly baked bread, the latches smoothed out. no fun. So, because I needed more controllers, I purchased a second set for the entire family to enjoy. I made every effort to keep the little fellow at bay. My efforts, however, were ultimately unsuccessful. Instead of spending another $80 on a joycon, I went with this quick fix for the handle. br>br>As I type this review, tears of joy (con) are welling up in my eyes. My son attacked my switch with unrelenting toddler brutality this morning, attempting to disconnect the controllers. He finally gave up after a few agonizing seconds and slammed the switch against the cushioned furniture. br>br>Installation was straightforward, but execution must be done with caution. My pieces fit perfectly without the need for any sanding or force fitting. It's a cinch to use.

My Nintendo Switch has regained its youthful vigor! How many people can relate to the backstory? br>I purchased my Switch about a month after it was released in 2017, I believe in April (remember how difficult it was to find them? ), and my Switch now feels brand new thanks to the addition of these small metal latches! I've read a lot of reviews about how most people, especially children, are careless when sliding the controllers on and off, causing the plastic latches to wear out
5/5

That isn't the only reason, of course. I'm a collector who takes great care with everything I handle. , and I used to play the Switch almost exclusively when it was docked. I couldn't get off the Joy cons no matter how carefully I slid off them - The Right controller started coming off without pressing the release button about 7 months after purchasing the Switch, and then the Left controller started sliding off after another 6 months or so. It didn't bother me at first, and because so few people had a Switch at the time, I couldn't find any videos, blogs, or other online resources about it. They've spread throughout the country now! So I was playing Dr. Mario when I received an error message stating that one of my controllers was missing. My Switch finally recognized the dreaded controller after 5 times sliding it on and off, but I'd already lost the stage in Dr. Mario! I'd had enough (and was too lazy to send it to Nintendo for repairs)! Attaching the METAL latches: br>br>Installing the METAL latches: br>br>Installing the METAL latches: br> br>Because of the difficulty in handling the small screws and parts, I gave the installation three stars. There are a lot of videos online that show how to install these latches (apparently some are labeled "L," "R," but not these), so it's pretty simple. This tool kit includes the necessary screw drivers as well as a very sharp tweezer. Make sure to work on one controller at a time, and pay attention to the orientation of the original plastic latch. Also, as other reviewers have pointed out, the tiny spring must be handled with extreme caution! I had no problems with the springs, so thank you to everyone who left a review before me! I would also recommend installing these items in a well-lit area and having some small containers (or something) on hand to put the screws in. Final thoughts: br>br> br>As I previously stated, my Switch now feels brand new! Because I have to push the release buttons again, I no longer have to worry about the controllers slipping off. However, keep in mind that the plastic latches on new Joy cons will wear down over time. I haven't asked Nintendo about it, and I'm not sure if the newer Switch models have fixed it, or if Nintendo even cares, but these latches work! After a few months, I'll try to rewrite this review to see if anything has changed.
