Questions & Answers

Is the Hori split pad pro controller compatible with Pokémon: Let's Go? Could someone please confirm if this is possible?

That is something I am unable to confirm. I am aware that the controllers on the Switch register as ProControllers. However, gyro, rumble, and Amiibo are not supported. So, if Pokemon Go calls for gyro controls, this controller isn't going to cut it. br>br>Best of luck:

Wasn't the Pikachu and Eevee game supposed to come out today, October 30th? What is the significance of the November 11 date now?

Calendars are amusing, to say the least.

Do they have a longer reach than a standard joycon?

Yes, they're half the width and twice the thickness of a regular joy con.

It's a bit pricey for what it provides
3/5

For the third time in three years of Switch ownership, I damaged my left joycon drift while attempting a DIY repair. I'd seen these Hori grips recommended as a good replacement in a few places, so I went with the Pickachu. Eevee has a firm grip on the situation. To begin with, the artwork and color scheme are both delightful. I'm sure I'll never tire of looking at them because they're so cute. br>br>As for the grips, playing with joycons for long periods of time is extremely uncomfortable. After an hour, the unergonomic placement of the joystick made my right thumb ache like crazy. Even with 5 minute breaks, the aching in both hands is nearly unbearable less than an hour later. These grips solved the problem, and they resemble an Xbox controller in feel. Unlike the joycons, I could play for hours at a time. br>br>Even when the Switch was brand new, the joycons wiggled a little in the rails; these grips fixed that as well. It will take time to see if they settle in, but for the time being, they feel like a part of the Switch. I also despise how loud the joycons are and how the buttons feel; the audible clicking of the buttons drove me insane when I tried to game on low volume, which isn't necessarily a con. It's just a pet peeve of mine. The Hori's buttons are nice to press and are quieter in every way, but that's where the advantages end. br>br>Because there is no internal battery in these grips, they must be "permanently" attached to the Switch. There are no vibration motors, so it would have been nice to play with these wirelessly. Hori could have easily fitted a vibration motor in these grips because they are quite large. As a result, some gaming immersion is lost, as there is no gyroscope, which is used in some games for aiming or gameplay. Although I do not mind this feature being removed, I am aware that others do. Another disadvantage is that the joysticks cannot be calibrated using the Switch. So, if they stray just a little, they're tossed in the trash or sent back to Amazon. Right out of the box, my right grip had a small amount of drift, but it "corrected" itself as I used them. Hori's quality and the "Nintendo's Officially Licensed" seal are both thrown into doubt as a result of this. br>br>Overall, for almost $50, these aren't a good value. There are other off-brand grips that offer the missing features for the same price or even a little less for the same price or even a little less. Hori was recommended in a few places on the web, they have the "Nintendo Officially Licensed" seal, and they weren't too expensive; I can live with the missing features, but if you want off-brand grips, do more research. That's exactly what I'd have done if I hadn't gotten these. TL: TL: TL: TL: TL: TL: TL: TL: TL: TL PROS: br>br>

On BOTH controllers, there is a drifting issue
3/5

I was under the impression that joy cons were the only ones who had this problem. I've only had these controllers for two weeks (possibly less), and the left side of the game is drifting. I placed a replacement order, and not even a week later, the new ones began to drift as well! Also, because you can't wrap your fingers around the back of the controller like you can with the Pro Controller, the grip can be a little uncomfortable. I'll just stick with joycons because, knock on wood, I haven't had any problems with drifting.

Exceptionally relaxing
3/5

They'd be better if they had a built-in battery. It's been 3 months since I got mine. These are a lot more comfortable to use on the handheld Switch than regular joycons. These, on the other hand, do not have internal batteries and instead rely on the switch for power. If your switch is docked, you won't be able to use these as controllers. To me, that was a letdown. You can't have a rumble/vibrate setting because they get power from the switch as well. br>They are comfortable and cute (I have the Evee Pikachu), but I believe you would be better off getting a switch case with handles.

Worth it! This split pad is well worth the money; I use my Switch primarily in handheld mode, and the joycons are not at all ergonomic
4/5

This split pad is a lot more comfortable, and I don't feel like I'm going to break my switch while playing with it. Because it makes the switch wider and bulkier, it may not be suitable for children or those with smaller hands. br>br>The eevee/Pikachu graphic has a nice textured matte finish. The back grips have a slightly grippy texture that prevents the pads from slipping out of your hands. The buttons on the face and the dpad are both comfortable to use. I prefer joysticks that are larger and more traditional in size. The shoulder buttons/triggers, on the other hand, are mediocre. I haven't played with the turbo buttons or the programmable back triggers, so I can't comment on them. br>br>My personal complaint is that pressing the home button does not wake up the console, but pressing the power button does. The interior edge where the pads meet the switch is also unattractive, but this has no bearing on the switch's functionality. Overall, I believe this split pad was well worth the money, and it has improved the Switch's handheld experience.

These are game-changing controllers
5/5

I bought this for a friend because I already had one from Urban Outfitters, along with a mini controller. This controller is incredible; it's a "game changer" in terms of comfort, and it's a breath of fresh air for games that don't require motion sensing. So there's Animal Crossing, Pokémon, the Story of Seasons, Yoshi's Crafted World, Lego games, and a slew of others. This is what I'll say about Mario Kart 8 with this controller. It is a more straightforward game to play. In handheld mode, I do a lot of my gaming. The size of this controller makes your switch appear larger. I had to remove my switch's back case to use this controller because it needs to be nearly flesh with the switch's back. The buttons are clicky and significantly larger than those on traditional joycons. This controller's thumb sticks are fantastic; they have a nice grip texture and are significantly larger than traditional joycons. I wouldn't recommend buying these because your joycons are broken, and some games, such as Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, won't let me start the game with these controllers. I have to start the game with my joy cons and then switch to these controllers once I've gotten past the loading screen. This is the only game in which this has occurred, but it is perfectly acceptable to me.
